Don’t look at the media. Take a look at the PEOPLE. See our churches, where people still go. See our young people, who are beginning to view divorce and abortion as something very wrong.

Hollywood movies are floundering-big time. Take a look at their returns.

And, my friend-you are in a position to judge our culture. Just take a look and observe-but also look at the people. Not all of us are like we are portrayed, in fact, very few of us are!
🙂 I have never met an American, except on the internet and I have to tell you online they’re not representing your country very well (except on this forum - most places I’ve been online I’ve only seen the worst side of humanity. And I don’t think that’s an American thing but an internet thing… most countries come off looking bad via online representation). Wait, I lied, an American came through my till one night at work and I remember being shocked because he was friendly and polite. Haha. The internet corrupts absolutely. 😉

Bottom line, I do not believe your country has reached the depths of Sodom and Gomorrah. I really don’t. Certain things are still considered wrong, I’m sure. Like murder, child abuse, rape, etc… and these things, if I understand scripture correctly, were considered acceptable norms for Sodom and Gomorrah.

Thank you for saying that my friend. No, murder, child abuse, rape~those things are NOT acceptable here. And try to be optimistic about abortion, divorce, other things, etc.

For the record, I’ve been to Canada several times, and I think the people there are lovely. Very sweet and very nice.

🙂 I do think we are displeasing God though (in Canada, for example, same sex marriage is legal in most (if not all - haven’t been paying attention to that lately) the provinces) and I do believe there’s evidence of reprecussion. In my area, for example, we are experiencing a plague. We have these beetles who are destroying our trees (just recently an entire park had to be burnt down because of the depth of the damage). If that isn’t a biblical type punishment I don’t know what is! AND we have been experiencing a drought for almost seven years!!! It’s really quite crazy! Every year the greatest river in our province is getting lower and lower… I’ve been watching it with a morbid kind of fascination.

I think both our countries have fallen away somewhat, but we haven’t reached maximum corruption yet. There is still hope, we just need to wake up and fix the damage we’ve done.

And I’m glad you had a good experience in Canada. 🙂 We have our fair shares of nutters and rude people, but I think, generally, we like to be diplomatic around here. I greatly suspect if I ever get the chance to travel to America I will enjoy myself, I think I’ll be avoiding places like Hollywood and Vegas though ;).

Good. There is much more to America than than LA and Vegas (and New York;)). Visit somewhere like Kansas or Texas, where REAL Americans live.

Texas probably. I’ve always heard it’s the American equivalent of Alberta and I want to see for myself. 😃 Plus Texans have cuuute accents…

As opposed to “False Americans?” Who is the arbiter of who is a real American and who isn’t?

America is judged mostly by what happens in California, New York, and Las Vegas. But this is a big country, so there’s more to the US than those 3 cities.

This is an attitude that will continue to polarize and fragment society. I agree we shouldn’t form our opinions from blue areas exclusively, but it would be equally wrong to assume total depravity exists there and moral foundation in red area (and I have never voted left).

I’ve never heard it so I don’t know! Haha! Do y’all drawl?
Nope. We say things like, “a-yup” and we tend not to have the letter “R”. Water becomes “Watah”. Lil things like that!

I don’t know if the United States is due for punishment or not but I do believe that those leaders of the United States who allow for such publicly sanctioned immorality will be punished in the Last Judgment.

A dear frrend of mine is from Long Island, but speaks like he is from Brooklyn! You should hear our Celtics-Knicks and Yankee-Red Sox debates. It’s not pretty!
Loooongislaand! It’s the home of Brooklyn/Queens (my borough) “exiles”.😉

Ok…I’m off subject…sorry!

I hate to sound overly pios but I tend to think that way too.

Now that the United States has a month dedicated to sodomy, does this mean that the U.S. will have the same fate as the cities Sodom & Gomorrah and that everyone living in the U.S. is as corrupted as was everyone who did not escape Sodom & Gomorrah, i.e., everyone except Lot et al.? If so, must there be a mass exodus of faithful Catholics leaving the U.S. before God allows it to be destroyed, else these Catholics become corrupted, too? At what point is Catholic acculturation with the secular U.S. impossible, if ever? Thanks
lol, what a stretch. Things don’t work the way they did in the OT anymore. Do you think angels are going to come to all the Catholics and tell them to leave and no one would think it was odd?

USA will be destroyed!!! Everyone get out now!!!

That does sound like something Fred Phelps would say. However, didn’t God say to Abraham that He would spare Sodom and Gomorrah if there were as few as ten righteous people living there? I know a lot more than ten righteous people who don’t conform to everything that Hollywood and Madison Avenue say.

If the US culture isn’t going to accept Catholics, that’s just too bad. If we become outcasts, so what? “Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of justice”.

On the other hand, why be pessimistic? Our once great nation promoted Christianity and a culture of life. Remember the 1950s? Back then, it was normal to be a Christian. We can bring this country back to its senses!
Catholics becoming outcasts in America? Come on. Muslims are the ones that are becoming outcasts, not Catholics.

It IS a great country, but certain individuals and groups have been guilty of great sins in its name (of course, other individuals and groups have performed great good in its name too).

I don’t believe that the country as a whole though should either be ‘pilloried’ for the sins of individuals, nor ‘exalted’ for the great deeds of other individuals. . .

UNLESS those sins or goods were specifically performed either in adherence to, or defiance of, God’s Law, and the ‘average man’ either contributed to the good, or did not try to ‘stop’ the bad.

I’m thinking specifically of abortion here. That is a huge blot on the mainly proud and God-fearing U.S. escutcheon. Unfortunately for many U.S. people, while a small minority actively perform or legally permit these abortions, and while a small minority actively advocate, pray, or otherwise try to legally HALT the abortions, a great number of people have just ‘sat by’ and refused to ‘get involved’.

I don’t believe that every man and woman in Sodom and Gomorrah was actively out there having gay sex. . .but probably quite a few were ‘all right’ with it provided it didn’t interfere with their personal lives, you know? Or didn’t LIKE it but didn’t want to look stupid or ‘fanatic’ by protesting. Or rationalized not speaking against the sins for a variety of reasons. In the end though they were not found righteous even if they personally didn’t really ‘support’ the evil. . .because they didn’t speak AGAINST it.

And I wonder how close we are or have been ‘skating’ to the moral edge on this especially in the last few decades. . .

But I still love and support the U.S. and feel the majority of people, if pressed, will do the right thing.
If God judges me for not standing outside an abortion clinic with a sign, so be it.
