“It’s discouraging,” Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Kathi Di Nicola said of Mengler’s decision. “We’re a front-line health-care provider for those on the margins of life.”
And, of course, a killer of those just starting out in life.

I’d glad the dean told this student “no.” I’m with him 100%.

““We’re a front-line health-care provider for those on the margins of life.””

The irony, irony galore.

What philosophical battle could they possibly have on campus ?
So the student doesn’t seem to get it is a “Catholic university” → Thus it’s values are “Catholic” → Contraception and Planned Parenthood is not in line with Catholic teaching → Therefore it makes sense when the ‘work’ is denied.

What would be illogical would be for the dean to state, it’s perfectly fine and in line with Catholic teaching.

People are losing brain cells at a phenomenal rate these days.

This is good news

The Dean of the law school decided that Planned Parenthood was not acceptable as an institution for fulfilling a student’s required volunteer hours.
I see UST taking too narrow of a stance here. At no point was this student going to have anything relating to abortions. I would expect her to go in and try to change that part from the inside. She was going for the Family Planning options, to help people have strong families and the ability to manage the ones they have. This appears to be too much of a knee-jerk reaction, which as a letter to the editor in the StarTribune said a couple of days ago actually goes against UST’s educational mission.

UST has been getting some unfavorable press lately over refusing certain speakers. Most recently they disinvited Desmond Tutu then backpedaled after an uproar in the press. This dustup over Planned Parenthood seems contrived to me. Does anybody really expect a Catholic university to approve a student working for PP as a part of the curriculum? I think not. Must have been a slow news day when this story was picked up.

Taking ‘too narrow of a stance’? You’re kidding, right? You do realize that Planned Parenthood considers abortion a Family Planning option, don’t you?

So you think maybe she was going to teach NFP at this"clinic"? If not how was she going tp help people manage the size of ther families and still adhere to the teachings of the Church?

In addtion would it not give scandal for a student from a catholic school to work at a clinic that perfroms abortion?

Even if Pl*#$d Parenthood didn’t perform abortions… just about everything they do is contrary with morality. Are there no Crisis Pregnancy Centers this student could volunteer at?

My guess is that this student agrees with some or all of the immoral positions of PP.

Where did you get your infomation on what she planned to do while there??? From her own mouth she stated that she wanted to get credit for something that is aganist church teaching. Seems like the dean made a good decision!👍

"Mengler’s concern that allowing the volunteer hours at Planned Parenthood is an endorsement of its mission is “totally off-base,” Borton said. She’s volunteered for the organization before and said she likes its work to stem sexually transmitted infections and promote contraception."
