see i dont think its an argument over how clients are handled, or at least that it shouldn’t be. i think its more about how the professional is handled in this situation. which is why i made a comparasion to another group of profesionals- doctors. i stated what would seem to be clearly an illegal breech of their rights(forced abortions) to draw the comparasion to this student having their ethics attacked.
You’re weaving argumentative cloth out of thin air.

I merely conjectured that behind the story could be the issue of ‘client handling’, within the sections of the code of ethics dealing with client handling, and that we’d find out more in the court case.

i’m not sure what ‘client handling’ is code for. the only handling problem i see is that she wouldnt handle it, while it may have been a guidleine for this school it doesnt seem to apply in the real world. even professionals have the right to refuse service, at least for now. and even if that is their policy it doesnt make that policy right.

as for my arguments basis im basing it on the only facts we have available at the present time. i think if this school didnt do anything wrong there would have been some press release of their official policy to clarify. times are rough all over with fewer people going to school they cant afford to alienate the vast majority of this country(Christians) if they didnt do something wrong. and especially in cases like this a court decesion isnt always proof of who was right-odds are a university can hire more and better lawers than a grad student can, and that can be all it takes to drag it out for eternity.

Professional codes of conduct are ‘double-edged’, they protect the client but they also protect the professional, if you keep to the code, you’re safe from accusations of ‘unprofessional conduct’. The code of ethics will prescribe set ways in which one deals with one’s relationship with the client - ‘what happens, if X happens’ - which includes the interactions involved if one feels oneself unable to deal with the client in one way or another. If one fails to keep to the prescriptions of the code then the road to ‘unprofessional conduct’ is opened up.

We don’t know what happened in this instance, we’ve only heard one side of the argument, the rest will, undoubtedly, emerge in the court case.

I would expect their lawyers to have told them not to get involved with the Press, it’s a matter for the Courts.

It wouldn’t normally be considered within the bounds of professional conduct, however.
Telling someone they are going to burn in hell would not be within the bounds of professional conduct either. It is not our place to decide who is going to burn in hell.

Also, if you know anyone being recruited or considering EMU, please make them aware of this issue.

I am tired of people not experiencing consequences to attacking a Christian’s beliefs. In someway I believe that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I think that is the way it goes.

Support Services for the LGBT Community at Eastern Michigan University

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Resource Center, LGBTRC , is an office on campus that works with anyone in the LGBT Community and we also seek and support Allies and Advocates of the LGBT Community. We like to have fun so we also put on a lot of events. We like for people to meet other people, so we invite lots of people (including you) to these events. Oh yeah, and we know you’re a poor college student, so they’re almost always free. We also provide you with opportunities to volunteer. In case thatwasn’t enough we work with departments on campus to make people more “in the know” when it comes to LGBT related issues.

EMU was recently named one of the top 100 schools in the nation for their support of the LBGT Community!!!

This doesn’t sound any different from the same orginizations that exist at almost every non-religious university in the country.

true, but i think that this school is so highly ranked by the gay groups is the telling point, not that they have an office to deal with those affairs. it also makes it seem like they may have a not so impartial interest in keeping that faction appeased.
