Is an unjust war with lots of casualties worse than abortion?
If, in all cases, murder is considered, guilt should depend on whether the act was perceived to be just or unjust or neutral or whathaveyou at the time it was committed. For instance, an unjust war fought knowingly is “worse” than an abortion conducted with the mindset that it was a morally neutral act. Of course, I’m borrowing from Catholicism it’s tenants of impetuoisity of temptation making sin all the more greiveous. I personally see, in things, only their relative moral fortitude or folly. Is an unjust war with lots of casualties worse than abortion?
Abortion is the most unjust of unjust wars. Breaking the 5th Commandment and refusing a gift from God makes it an unjust war against God, doesn’t it?Is an unjust war with lots of casualties worse than abortion?
Apologies. I hate “which is worse” questions. We can speculate till the end of the day, but even if we come to some kind of agreement what is the point? As Catholics, we cannot pick one evil. We are not God. We cannot see the damage or the good that comes from either of these things. (Don’t yell at me. I am not saying either is good. God makes good things come from bad all the time.) We cannot measure these evils, since we cannot know their full effect. We can only say that they are both inarguably evil and unjustifiable, and that we must oppose both. (Again, don’t yell at me. The OP specified an “unjust” war.)Is an unjust war with lots of casualties worse than abortion?
I used to wonder about this. Until proportionality was explained to me. We are fast approaching 1 billion aborted babies worldwide. Is an unjust war with lots of casualties worse than abortion?
Is abortion worse than murdering an adult? Is this true? Any sources please?Abortion is a greater sin than murdering an adult.
I had friends who said, “I’m going to vote for Obama even though he’s pro-abortion since he’ll get us out of the war, cure poverty and save the whales…” So even a year later, they had egg on their face.
You can’t vote that way, there is no sin in the political sphere which can compare or outweigh abortion.
Yes. Also, a child doesn’t have the opportunity to be saved, as an adult does.Is abortion worse than murdering an adult? Is this true? Any sources please?
Is it because a child is certainly innocent and not an adult?
I know that a majority in agreement doesn’t necessarily make the thing so, nor does authority, but does anyone have any church authorities who say that abortion is worse than murder or does anyone know if this is the common opinion amongst catholics? Because I don’t recall hearing this from many people or clergy at all.Yes. Also, a child doesn’t have the opportunity to be saved, as an adult does.
We see this in the secular world. If you have a man who is a serial child killer, he is seen as an especially heinous and depraved criminal – even moreso than if he was a serial killer of adults. We just pretend like abortionists aren’t on the same level because they wear lab coats and say they are doing it for the great good. The Nazi scientists also wore lab coats and said they were doing it for the greater good, but they still committed seriously depraved and horrific crimes.
This isn’t strictly what you’re asking but it’s relevent nonetheless:I know that a majority in agreement doesn’t necessarily make the thing so, nor does authority, but does anyone have any church authorities who say that abortion is worse than murder or does anyone know if this is the common opinion amongst catholics? Because I don’t recall hearing this from many people or clergy at all.
Thus, violence against one’s own child (abortion) is in itself much more serious than violence against someone who is not related to you.Grave matter is specified by the Ten Commandments, corresponding to the answer of Jesus to the rich young man: Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honour your father and your mother. The gravity of sins is more or less great: murder is graver than theft. One must also take into account who is wronged: violence against parents is in itself graver than violence against a stranger.
Both are equally evil in my opinion. Is abortion worse than murdering an adult? Is this true? Any sources please?

Do you have support for any of these claims? Looks to me like a lot of equivocation of terms and strawmen. Unsubstantiated rhetoric in other words.it’s simply an inconsistent teaching -
You can either justify murder. Or you can not.
Making it ok to murder for the greater good makes no sense because then you can apply that to anything … even abortion
Yes, abortion is the worst sin against life.Is abortion worse than murdering an adult? Is this true? Any sources please?

Pope John Paul II Evangelicum VitaeAmong all the crimes which can be committed against life, procured abortion has characteristics making it particularly serious and deplorable. The Second Vatican Council defines abortion, together with infanticide, as an “unspeakable crime”.54
Last time I checked there was no clause in the 10 commandments … thou shall only kill in cases of genocide … or when our national interests are at stake.Do you have support for any of these claims? What credentials do you have that would lead me to accept this interpretation of the Bible?Last time I checked there was no clause in the 10 commandments … thou shall only kill in cases of genocide … or when our national interests are at stake.
its either wrong to kill or there are justifications.
if you can justify murder … you can justify abortion. Unless abortion is not murder?
