Upcoming Synod & Youth

We need to know what the youth are saying even if it isn’t what we want to hear.

And what if the youth tell us that women should be ordained? Or same-sex marriage should be accepted by the Church? Or the focus on confession should be minimized because it makes people feel uncomfortable? None of that has to do with “what we don’t want to hear.” It has to do with uncatechized youth and what unreasonable expectations they might have.

It doesn’t mean we have to just give the youth whatever they want but it’s maybe a starting point so that they could be catechized better with more detailed explanations where necessary.

So, isn’t that a good thing, then? Now we have a starting point for catechesis.

Eh, I’d say we’ve always had a starting point for catechesis and don’t need an entire synod for that. But to each his own.

That is exactly what a Synod is for.
I don’t understand the fear here? What is wrong with having honest discussions?

Who’s afraid? The question is whether what the Church is being asked to do is reasonable. Where does the Church imply that those who experience these issues shouldn’t speak of them?
A huge number of Catholics will tell people who are gay or people who experience transgender issues to just not talk about it – that talking about it will “encourage it”. If the Church spoke definitively on the need for more light and more conversation, there would be a basis for people to say, “I speak openly about these things because the Church teaches me to.”

Amen to that.

Why in the name of great green gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts does cosmetic decoration have anything to do with the Church? Next we will discuss the morality of “Just For Men” haircolor.

The tattoo comment is probably not what you or the other poster who eluded to it what you think it is.
I noticed what you quoted was an “opinion piece”. Before you cast judgement, why not read what was actually said from a credible source. Then maybe you won’t be so worried about the Synod.
A credible source

That is not a news article, it is someone’s opinion.
Why don’t we just wait and see what really happens before we all get our knickers in a knot.

Have you read the article? If yes, I would have liked you to point out parts of the article which are not objective. How relevant are you when you just say it’s someone’s opinion? I didn’t know it is a sin to learn from other people’s opinions. If you are still doubting it means you are not aware of what is going on at the Vatican.

Um, check my first post again. It includes an opinion piece AND the actual pre-synodal document.

Praying is good, but we need to be more active physically, not only spiritually. God is not a dictator. He cherishes our freedom. Prayers are necessary but not enough. We have to speak out the truth and oppose Church leaders if necessary. We need to do more than praying. Let’s fight against false prophets, let’s fight against heresies.

And I am talking about your comment on tattoos that younand a few others are making judgement about. The link is from the Vatican News Service and talks about the Pope answering questions. It is in nothing you linked.

All I see here is a bunch if fear mongering. Discussion is a good thing, it dispels myths and misunderstandings. Why is anyone afraid of it?
