I still want to know how she got to this place. She is a sister in the Society of the Holy Child Jesus. Their original mission (from their website):

How do you go from there to breaking into secure facilities, vandalism and throwing blood?!?
I’d venture to say you highlighted the answer to your question in your post.
The heritage of respect for the dignity of every human being which Cornelia gave her community has been translated through the generations as a spirit of trust and of reverence for all God’s people.
WMD can take away more than military targets to include a dignity of life, or a reverence for all God’s people,

There is nothing of trust and reverence in the actions reported in the link. There is not even an element of education, which would at least be tangentially related to the order’s mission.

And there are still people who criticize the Vatican for looking into the activities of religious sisters? These activities, if the charges are proven to be true, bring shame on the Church. Every site that reported these kooky actions made a point of identifying her as a Catholic sister.

The sister protested on the behalf of the people that could be affected by WMD. That seems to be a reverence for all God’s people.

Why are her actions, on behalf of life, different from those arrested during abortion demonstrations, or even death penalty demonstrations? Everyone has a right to life; something WMD are designed to take away. Catholics are also identified during those type demonstrations as well.

Good Job sisters, you will be scorned for doing what is True though, just as the Truth was given over to the gentiles by the Jews.

It’s different for several reason:
  • WMDs aren’t actively being used. There is no immediate danger to anyone from American WMDs.
  • Prolife protesters don’t engage in vandalism (and if they do then their arrests are just).
  • Prolife protesters don’t trespass as a rule. They tend to be on sidewalks and the like.
  • Prolife protesters offer to support people and engage others in conversation, rather than sneaking off by themselves to put up messages on a building no one will ever see.

If an 82 year old woman could infiltrate the perimeter, and then walk 2 hours to reach the building and have time to paint slogans on the building, I’d say there’s some danger to the uranium processed and stored there. What if this had been a trained and armed terrorist group? Secondly, because of our stockpile, other countries ‘race’ to maintain a balance, while some are just beginning to obtain the same type weapons.

Many times during protests and demonstrations, arrests are made. Some anticipated by the protesters/demonstrators.

Trespass is very similar to unlawful assemblies, or purposefully blocking access to buildings. This instance did not have the appearance of being violent.

These people actually do engage others. There’s another thread discussing their arrest. Someone provided a link to a speech the sister gave. As for the messages, seems many of the news media has given them platform to get their message across.

There’s no difference of breaking laws, for the purposes of non violent protests/demonstrations: i.e. breaking and entering and blocking the entrance of a building/unlawful assembly, such as the entrance way to an abortion clinic. That’s just one example. I’m sure, with a little research, one could find many instances of Catholic leaders/religious arrested for an array of charges due to protests/demonstrations. 🤷
But that’s why the Church supports **only **peaceful, lawful protests at abortion clinics. She does not condone any violence, vandalism or trespass, even at an abortion clinic.

And, yes, especially in the70s there were many religious and clergy arrested in protests. But most of these were acts of civil disobedience or passive resistance. That’s a far cry from B&E combined with vandalism.

Even the peace-niks have to see a difference between a peaceful sit-in and forcible entry.

And that’s a valid concern. But then you would be arguing that the religious sisters have adopted a mission of ensuring the security of weapons facilities and pointing out ways to tighten up standards to deter terrorism. How is** that **a religious charism?

Actually, I am not saying the religious sisters have adopted a mission of ensuring the security of weapon facilities and pointing out ways to tighten up standards to deter terrorism. I was pointing out the dangers in the lack of national security on such a facility, since another poster said there was no immediate danger with US WMDs. I can see how pacifists might see the danger when compared to the arms ‘race’ between countries. If you visit the other thread on their arrest, and view the video link provided by another poster, you’ll see she specifically condemns this administration’s call to reduce nuclear proliferation while continuing to build up more WMD.

you right the Church doesn’t condone violence or vandalism, and the Church doesn’t condone trespass.i do not see that they condemn trespass either. and i am not being cute nor obtuse.

It amazes me that some don’t see giving someone that has dedicated their life to Christ, and the Church, the benefit of the doubt…
Yeah but she broke in to a NUCLEAR facility!! Last time I checked I am sure there are laws on that. Being a “pacifist” doesn’t give anyone the right to break into private or government property especially if it’s off limits to the public. She could have easily shared her viewpoint from the outside, whether by protest or what ever THEY like to do. Just because she has “given” her life to Christ does not automatically excuse her from the law. We don’t even know if she is faithful Catholic nun, although I hope she is.

Aren’t some of you people forgetting that Jesus Christ was a pacifist? Christ would not EVER condone weapons of mass destruction no matter what flawed human reasoning anyone tried to throw at him. What part of you can honestly justify weapons of mass destruction? Isn’t the name we gave it simple enough to understand? That’s as unchristian as it gets. We need to stop thinking of ourselves as “americans” first and Catholics second. Christ first IN EVERYTHING! Attacking this nun for protesting evil  Shame on those of you who pass judgement without knowing the facts. Especially against someone who gave up her entire life for the cloth (something you clearly aren’t doing).
 Get of your high horse

2409 Even if it does not contradict the provisions of civil law, any form of unjustly taking and keeping the property of others is against the seventh commandment: thus, deliberate retention of goods lent or of objects lost; business fraud; paying unjust wages; forcing up prices by taking advantage of the ignorance or hardship of another.192
The following are also morally illicit: speculation in which one contrives to manipulate the price of goods artificially in order to gain an advantage to the detriment of others; corruption in which one influences the judgment of those who must make decisions according to law; appropriation and use for private purposes of the common goods of an enterprise; work poorly done; tax evasion; forgery of checks and invoices; excessive expenses and waste. Willfully damaging private or public property is contrary to the moral law and requires reparation.

:amen:

This says it all, referencing WMD, IMHO.

“Willfully damaging private or public property is contrary to the moral law and requires reparation” and that is vandalism, not trespassing. they climbed over the fence, that is trespass.
