I’m all for not allowing altar girls. That’s not all; I don’t think any lay people should be on the altar. If girls wanna serve, they can help mom serve dinner![]()

That makes no sense, the Church allows for married deacons so clearly married men are already there.I’m all for not allowing altar girls. That’s not all; I don’t think any lay people should be on the altar.
I was talking to a friend of my grandparents and he was an altar boy when he was young. He said that when he was engaged (about 19) there was a nun that said to him, “It looks like we’ll need someone to take your place as an altar boy because we can’t have a married man on the altar.” That would be so great to here that from a nun!
The good ol’ days!
And that there are a lot of married priests in the Latin Rite even today. That makes no sense, the Church allows for married deacons so clearly married men are already there.
Its comments like this why people accuse us Catholics of being backward thinking. If girls wanna serve, they can help mom serve dinner![]()
Well, thanks to the UE clarifying the SP, we won’t have to endure the noveltiesI’m all for not allowing altar girls. That’s not all; I don’t think any lay people should be on the altar.

Can’t one contribute from outside the sanctuary? How about being an usher or taker of collections? I don’t see a big push from anyone there. We should acknowledge the fact that women contribute a lot of the Church and even to each individual parish even though they do not serve in the Liturgy itself.
Hmm, that would come as a big surprise to my dad, who was an altar server for 27 years before he got married and he served after as well until family & work commitments made that too difficult.I’m all for not allowing altar girls. That’s not all; I don’t think any lay people should be on the altar.

I feel quite grateful for the nuns that taught me in grade school. Traditional roles. Stuff like that. Its comments like this why people accuse us Catholics of being backward thinking.

But back in the day, before young boys saw girls serving Mass and thinking that’s what girls do, there wasn’t a shortage of boys wanting to serve.Hmm, that would come as a big surprise to my dad, who was an altar server for 27 years before he got married and he served after as well until family & work commitments made that too difficult.
Another reson why the EF will not return except in very small pockets.

During Liturgy? Sure. I’m just thinking that people tend to think that everything else seems of lesser importance. But there’s plenty of important work with the Church outside of Liturgy that women can do.Can’t one contribute from outside the sanctuary? How about being an usher or taker of collections? I don’t see a big push from anyone there.
Could you explain the animosity you have to the UE ?Another reson why the EF will not return except in very small pockets.![]()
I don’t think the EF’s ability to grow is about women serving at the altar. Although I would like to see women take part in the choir. But in any case, I think that hampers its re-growth is the fact that its Latin. That is the largest stumbling block for most people.Another reson why the EF will not return except in very small pockets.![]()
If one can read English there is no stumbling block. That’s what missals are for.I don’t think the EF’s ability to grow is about women serving at the altar. In some ways that might be a good thing. Unfortunately many still don’t have easy access to it.Another reson why the EF will not return except in very small pockets.
People don’t want to spend time with their faces buried in the Missal. Its like not all anime fans want to watch with Japanese voices with English subs. They want to enjoy the art of the cartoon, not just read the subtitles. If one can read English there is no stumbling block. That’s what missals are for.
