Honestly? I think you should scrap the note and have your husband take his brother out for a beer and have a man-to-man chat. This is his brother, his family that will be upset, and ultimately it’s your husband’s place to discuss this with his brother. I fear that your note, even though it is kind, will only produce a profuse rolling of eyes, anger, and a call to your mother-in-law complaining about your audacity.
