I just called the Archdiocese of Detroit Development Office, the department organzing the Mass. This is what I learned…

Mass is invitation only - it is NOT open to the public

There will be a podcast of the Mass - you can see it HERE

I was able to put my name on a “waiting list” for a ticket. Not sure what that means.

So - I may still be taking the day off, but I’ll be spending it sitting in front of my computer I suppose. 😦

Oh well.

NO WAY! I thought there was no such thing as a private Mass.

Welcome to Detroit. 😉

The Cathedral is large, but not limitless space. Although I do think it is a horrible shame that it’s not open to the public - we are, after all, who he is here to serve (through the Church, of course). 😦

Guess what? I just got an email that my husband is welcome to vest, but I, too would have to be put on the waiting list for a ticket to the Mass. I can always watch it on streaming video.

I know that WDEO, 990am Ann Arbor/Detroit (avemariaradio.net) will be broadcasting this (I assume WDEO will give lead to EWTN).

I have to believe that there will be all the bishops in Michigan attending as well as many priests, deacons and seminarians. (Possibly some of the former auxiliary bishops that have now been sent around the country will be here too). As Lisa said, it is a large building (I believe that Sweetest Heart of Mary is the largest church building in the city) but I would think that just these groups will probably fill it up by half if not more. I would also note that it is “Limited reserved seating”, which to me is different than “Not open to the public”. There are probably those who were “invited” who will get seating preference before “unclaimed seats” are offered to those on the waiting list.

I’m just praying that he will be able to pick up where he left off with the seminary when he left.

I was TOLD, by the woman at the Development Office that it is NOT open to the public and is INVITATION ONLY. I realize what the website says, but this is what I was told when I specifically asked if it was a public Mass and was told NO.
