So for the indulgence you receive at the Urbi et Orbi like a normal indulgence the requirements are to have confession, receive communion on the same day, pray for the Popes intentions and watch/take part in this blessing - my question is however I can’t get to Mass on Christmas Day, I went last night to “Midnight” Mass but it finished at 11pm so I couldn’t receive communion on the 25th do I still fulfill the requirements for the indulgence?

Midnight Mass counts as a vigil for Christmas Day. Further, for the communion requirement for indulgences on the same day is ideal but within a few days is acceptable. The only thing that must be on the same day is the prayer for the pope.

The Eucharistic Communion does not have to be on the same day, it is fitting, however.

(From Manual of Indulgences, USCCB, 2006), p. 18, p. 47.

Norm 20.3: The three conditions **[sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion, and prayer for the intention of the Sovereign Pontiff] **may be fulfilled several days before or after the performance of the prescribed work; it is, however, fitting that Communion be received and the prayer for the intention of the Holy Father be said on the same day the work is performed.

Grant 4
PAPAL BLESSING

A plenary indulgence is granted ot hte faithful who devoutly receive a blessing imparted either by the Supreme Pontiff to Rome and the World (Urbi et Orbi), or by the bishop to whose case the faithful are entrusted in accordance with Norm 7, 2* of the Manual, even if, because of reasonable circumstances, they are unable to be present physically at the sacred rite, provided that they follow it devoutly as it is broadcast live by television or radio.

The Vigil for Christmas Day is in the Evening. Midnight Mass is “Mass in the night”, not a vigil Mass. But it does count for Christmas. There are 4 distinct Masses for Christmas, each with its own distinct propers and readings: vigil, in the night, at dawn, and in the day. All count as Christmas Mass for the liturgical day.

I would say any one counts for the indulgence. We aren’t strict legalists!
