Urgent need for vocations in Scottish diocese

Bishop John Cunningham of Galloway, Scotland, has asked for all his flock to pray for vocations as his diocese faces a serious shortage of priests.

The diocese recently announced that the retirement of one priest who oversees multiple parishes will result in his roles being shared by two other priest who also already oversee a number of parishes each.

It is sad that we are seeing such a decline in some of our dioceses here in Scotland. Motherwell and Edinburgh are about the only ones that are bearing fruit at the moment.

This is not surprising and we reap what we sow. I would say first things first - that there is an urgent need for purification within the church in Scotland. I’m so thankful that Pope Francis recently exhorted the clerics to live the Gospel message with their lives.
