For some reason I have a re-occuring attraction to Islam. I don’t know why. I pray to God my Father to guide me to Him and I am attracted to Islam.
I wonder what’s going on? I have a very strong devotion to God the Father - I love Him more than anything and trust Him more than anyone. I at times feel I can’t find Him in Christianity … its all about Jesus.
There are also some things I like Islam … the simplicity of faith, prayer, charity and fasting. Freedom from so many doctrines and dogmas and just simple belief in God the Father.
I love Jesus … I believe He is Lord, Messiah, Redeemer, Son of God, the Holy Word and Wisdom of God … but I don’t believe he is God the Father. I don’t believe He is a separate God to the Father. I believe God is purely One - the Father

I am confused by this because I pray to my Father to lead me and I feel an attraction to Islam. I just want God and to be with Him everyday of my life. I don’t want rosaries, I don;t want chaplets, devotions, weird writings by saints … I just want God my Father and to be as beautiful as I can be for Him by walking and living in the Way of Love.
I’m confused 😦

losiing faith in the Trinity, or jesus as the son god does not lead logically to Islam, It would lead you to becoming a Jehovah witness!!

Muslims do not believe that jesus died on the cross, they believe he was magically swapped for Judas at the last minute and that Jesus and Mary Magdalene married, had kids…

I would recommend that you try to make some time to pray with God over this outside of your daily life, go on a Franciscan/Benedictine weekend retreat for example.
Or go on a pilgrimage?

I have gone from agnostic-Deism to catholicism in just over a year myself which is the reverse of your predicament, for myself it was a faith in the father that lead me here, I didnt want to dismiss 2 thousand years of christian experience (as does largely the Protestant church)
I wanted a fuller connection with god, in a Historical Christianity which is part of a living tradition that is alive today.

I had this urge for a while too. It is a temptation, nothing more. I would suggest reading the gospel and various prophets in the old testaments.

For example if I was tempted to deny the divinity of Jesus, I would go look for evidence supporting the divinity of Jesus. If I was tempted to reject Jesus existing, I would go read the passages that prophesied him in the Old Testament.

Basically I was letting Satan choose my biblical readings for the day. He will eventually realize that his temptations are indirectly causing you to grow in your faith, and he will stop.

Just don’t get too carried away.

I’ve been following your posts on this forum. And to be honest, I knew this day was coming, I knew that you would eventually say “I have a urge to be a Muslim”…

Please ditch this thought.

You are attracted to the rules of Islam. You are attracted to the thought of someone here on Earth will take care of you, a man…do you want an arranged marriage? You are attracted to the thought of head covering, arent’ you? You are attracted to a more outward appearence of your faith, aren’t you?

Whatever you do, do not turn to Islam. Stay away from that website and all those youtube videos, etc.

Right over there in that other thread you just thanked the Lord Jesus for your day…and now you post about being a Muslim…

I understand we all must go through a spiritual journey, I too have rejected Jesus at one time … but nothing felt better than going to confession and confessing my denial.

I pray for you. You said that you stayed in prayer after the Mass the other day…I am praying that you have not hurt Our Lord in receiving His Body and Blood, while thinking about Islam and denying Our Lord’s Divinity with the Father. That would be a big no - no. And reciting the Nicene Creed, etc…

There is nothing but emptiness and more heart ache for you in Islam. I have read some of your earlier posts and I can say without hesitation that Islam will be as oppresive as your previous religious experiences. Islam is all about submission to a God who is essentially unknowable.

Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. Only in him will you find peace. The problem that you have is that you don’t know him. Your views about Jesus are distorted by your previous religious experiences. Jesus loves you. He is your friend. He walks with you, even though you may not realise it. Find him again. Experience his love. Experience the peace that only he can give.

Forget your opinions about Jesus and read the Gospels. If you open your heart, the Holy Spirit will reveal Christ to you and you will experience his love. He will transform your whole world. You will still face difficulties but Christ will always be there helping you along the road.

There is one thing that makes Christianity different from all other religions, including Islam. All religions teach the ways in which man can achieve happiness and salvation. Christianity on the other hand, teaches that Jesus has already achieved salvation for us. He has opened the door for us. All we have to do is love him. We keep his commandments out of love, not because we feel that we have to in order to achieve redemption. Muslims keep their commandments out of fear that they will be rejected by a God who is far above them. The notion of a personal deity is an alien concept in Islam. Only in Christianity will you find a God who has experienced humanity and has suffered like you. He has experienced all of the things that you have. Fear. Rejection. Depression. Dread. And love, and kindness, and warmth.

I will pray for you.

**The reason is simple.

You have publicly rejected Jesus on these blogs, and this has opened the door for Satan to delude you.

This vision of “light” that gives you warm fuzzies is an example of one of the lower demon’s tricks, as anyone familiar with Christian ascetic literature can tell you.

You need to repent.

The true God is NOT guiding you to Islam.**

Hi U-gal,

How are you praying?

I just read this in Pope Benedict XVI’s book, Jesus of Nazareth, (p. 130 in Doubleday’s hardback):

“This is what prayer really is - being in silent inward communication with God. … Our praying can and should arise from our heart,… But we also constantly need to make use of those prayers that express in words the encounter with God experieinced both by the Church as a whole and by individual members of the Church. For without these aids to prayer, our own praying and our image of God become subjective and end up reflecting ourselves more than the living God…”

I hope that’s helpful.

Peace.

You should be confused.God ,Jesus, and the holy spirit. Are all the same thing! ww thats awsome .It not about you any way.Its about loving one another.Ego is latin for I, i dont want i dont do this,i dont like.Keep your life simple and do the best you can.I cant help you God can if you let him.Dont give up you need the spiritual principle call faith and we have to have trust.remember its not spirital perfectionn but spirital progress.

1- Could you tell me what exactly you would do to follow God and how you become as beautiful as you could be?
2- Second question: what exactly is walking and living in the Way of Love?

In Christianity, the First Person of the Blessed Trinity is “Father” to us. He loves us and we can have a close relationship with Him just as we do with the other Persons of the Trinity. One God, Three Divine Persons.

In Islam, God is not considered “Father” as He is in the Christian religion.

Islam came many hundreds of years after Christ, and it is a confusion of OT and NT teachings. Mohammed was NOT a true prophet.

Thankyou for your replies

just to clarify something … I am not going to become Muslim, I am just having reoccuring urgings / desires to.

I am not attracted to the “rules” of Islam as one of you has said. That is precisely a reason why I will not become Muslim.
I am not attracted to the wearing of a head veil as some one said. I can wear a head veil without being Muslim

I have not rejected the divinity of Jesus as another one person said … I believe precisely that Jesus is Divine - divine because he is the Word/ Wisdom of God. I believe He is Lord, Messiah, the Son of God. I just don’t believe He is God the Father. I believe in ONE God - the Father and I love His Holy Word and Holy Spirit, but I don’t think they are separate Gods, or separate persons in one godhood. I believe God the Father is purely One and gives us His Holy Word and Holy Spirit to redeem and sanctify us, but they are ONE not three.

For you who keep bringing up that I rejected Jesus before … please get over it. That was some months ago and the ‘Jesus’ I rejected before was a false god, a construct of human beings that God my Father wanted to reject so that I could get to know His Holy Word/Wisdom for who He truly is.

I think the biggest attraction I have to Islam is that God is ONE. My prior beliefs in christianity were comparable to tri-theism - that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit were three Gods in some alliance. Even now I have difficulty with the concept of “Trinity” because it immediately conjurs up for me the belief of tri-theism.

😦 I was a pagan heretic for so long and I didn’t even know.

I LOVE God the Father. I love Him so much, I wish there were more focus on Him in the catholic church - Jesus is His Holy Word/Wisdom (His Son) that came to lead us to Him. So many people just seem to stop short at Jesus

I’m sorry, I feel confused sometimes.

You are attracted to the rules of Islam.

(1) You are attracted to the thought of someone here on Earth will take care of you, a man…do you want an arranged marriage?
(2) You are attracted to the thought of head covering, arent’ you?
(3) You are attracted to a more outward appearence of your faith, aren’t you?
I thought I’d number them so I could answer each one of them.

(1) I doubt this is a serious question. In case anyone’s wondering the answer is no, btw my partner may have some objections

(2) No. I can place a cloth over my head without changing religions

(3) Yes maybe this is it. I think this may be part of the attraction and the belief that God is ONE.
I think it may be that most Christians have a strong devotion to Jesus and Mary - I have a strong devotion to God the Father. I wish there was more focus on Him, afterall the Word of God told us to pray to the Father in His Name

1- Could you tell me what exactly you would do to follow God and how you become as beautiful as you could be?
2- Second question: what exactly is walking and living in the Way of Love?
(1) Do you mean in Islam? - the answer I can think of is in no way. Islam the religion is foreign to the beauty and Love I see in God my Father. That’s partly why I’m confused about the attraction

(2) the Way of Love is the way my Father teaches me. It is to love Him with all your heart, soul and mind, to love Him unconditionally and love others unconditionally because it’s His will for us to do so. He teaches me that holy Love is the narrow way to Heaven that few people find. Love sanctifies all, love makes all things pleasing to Him. Love is repaid with love alone and He created us to Love Him and one another.
He taught us the Way of Love with his Holy Word - incarnate in the fullness of time as the Christ. That’s the Way of Love, a pleasing sacrifice to God - a holocaust of love, to love God and love others even in the midst of misery and suffering.

Great answer on the way of love.
I have some verses here that you may find them very useful:

Matthew 17:6 This is my Beloved Son with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.

John 14: 6-7 Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father.

John 14:10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.

John 14: 13 [Jesus said] and whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Matthew 11:27 All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him.

I just don’t believe He is God the Father.

No one ever said Jesus was God the Father. Where did you get that idea?

** I believe in ONE God - the Father and I love His Holy Word and Holy Spirit, but I don’t think they are separate Gods, or separate persons in one godhood.**

**Three persons of one Divine Nature (or essence) is the usual theological term. Only Mormonism teaches that Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three separate Gods.

Earlier you did post a thread entitled, “Why I reject Jesus.” Have you repented of that?**

Your attraction to Islam may not necessarily be the will of Him to whom you prayed, who knows. Christians pray basically this way:

“Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed by Thy name,
Thy Kingdom come
Thy will be done…

Therefore, when we pray, we pray not that our will be done but that His will be done. So, we try to find out what really is His will.
What do you mean by “simple belief in God the Father”? To believe in God the Father naturally is also to believe in the One He sent, the Son Jesus Christ. And to believe in Jesus Christ naturally is also to believe in the Church that He built, and to believe in the Church that He built naturally is also to believe in the communion of the saints.
I’m confused :
Naturally you would be confused because your prayer is not that His will be done but that your own will be done.

I respectfully disagree with that because its simply not true. Every time I pray I pray that the Father’s will be done in my life, so for you to say that I pray for my will to be done is a lie

and how would you determine I have repented? what would constitute repentance for you? You keep bringing it up despite everything that’s happened in between. I believe that no matter what I do it would not be enough for you.

Here is the proof of how you pray:

I’m confused :

You see. You want to limit God’s action on you! You do not totally open yourself to His will.

I notice you didn’t actually answer my question. Have you repented of that thread? It requires only a yes or no answer.
