Did the old bishop die and get buried on Boot Hill? 🙂

Does the new bishop get a pair of six guns to strap to his hip? (Just kidding.) 🙂

Bishop Gilmore is relatively young. The Catholic population in that area is heavily Hispanic. Don’t know what is going on, but I do know that they need to take a good look at the schools. Some Catholics in the area use the Catholic school system to get away from the Hispanics. Not good.

I’m confused by this post. Catholic Schools generally have a mixed population, including hispanics. Maybe they are fleeing public schools that are out of control. Just speculating, as I said, I didn;t understand your post.

That also is a very serious problem. And I am NOT kidding. Catholics not welcome. Hispanics who are recent immigrants don’t have much understanding of the problems in US public education. And because of packing plants in the area, non-citizen Hispanics are there in very large numbers.

Did your previous bishop take up a musket against the yankees?
Did you conquer peace for Dixie? 😉

I think it was a slingshot that he used along with some persimmons as ammo.
Did you conquer peace for Dixie? Peace lives on in Dixie as long as a Southeastern Conference football team ends up on top of the BCS in the championship, as God has ordained. 🙂 😉

Those who don’t know anything about the area except what they saw on Gunsmoke don’t have much right to make jokes about it. There are just as many problems now as there were then, only-- different. 😦

Dodge City is a rough diocese - lots of area, but few Catholics.

Bishop Gilmore has previously sought treatment for a drinking problem, and that might be related to the early retirement.

That being said, every previous bishop of the diocese has resigned early or been named to another diocese. (Granted, Bishop-elect Brungardt is only the 6th ordinary in its history.)

For myself, I have to admit that living in Western Kansas would be a penance. But I’m sure that there are those who prefer it.

Western Kansas would be a penance.
To be sure. It awakened my mind to the influence of Mormonism in my life. Maybe Fr. Gilmore can be persuaded to accept Salina.

Please pray for Bishop John. He had a brain tumor removed over a year ago, and just recently started having seizures again.

Maybe those Catholic schools should offer scholarships to the hispanic students. Miost of the Hispanics are Catholic.

This morning the Holy See announced the decision of Pope Benedict XVI to accept the resignation of Bishop Ronald Michael Gilmore and name Bishop-elect John B. Brungardt as Bishop of Dodge City, Kansas, USA.
The 2010 O.P.: My bolding. 😃
This thread is 7 years old. May God bless Emeritus Pope Benedict and the previous Bishop, Bishop Gilmore.
It appears that the thread was revisited to ask for prayer for the current Bishop who is having seizures.
For Bishop Brungardt:

Sub Tuum Praesidium Under Thy Patronage

We fly to thy protection
O holy Mother of God
Despise not our petitions in our necessities,
But deliver us always from all dangers
O glorious and blessed Virgin.
Amen.
