US Bishop Change: Oklahoma City & Salina

This morning the Holy See announced the decision of Pope Benedict XVI to accept the retirement of Archbishop Eusebius Joseph Beltran and to name Archbishop-designate Paul Stagg Coakley as Archbishop of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA.

Archbishop-designate Coakley had been serving as Bishop of Salina, Kansas.

We finally get a good one and he gets promoted.

If I recall correctly, he is a graduate of Kansas University, became involved with the excellent Catholic student center located there. Had no notion of becoming a priest during his college years. Later became a priest of the Wichita Diocese, then was ordained as Bishop of the Salina Diocese, in 2004? A very good selection, in my opinion.

Sorry it tooks so long to reply.

When he first came to the Salina Diocese he promised to visit each parish and not just for confirmations and really talk to each parish and finance council. It took him a couple of years as we are so far flung but he did just what he said. I got the impression he is “reachable” in ways that our former biship simply wasn’t.
 
Is it safe to say that this new bishop has the CAF seal of approval?

Would he be termed “conservative” would you say?
