Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama Pasqualetto was named Bishop of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.

The diocese had been vacant since Bishop Michael Francis Burbidge was named Bishop of Arlington, Virginia in October 2016.

Bishop Zarama Pasqualetto had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Atlanta, Georgia.

Odd. We’ve only ever seen him referred to as Zarama, not the additional surname.
He celebrated a few Confirmations. This past year we had the Archbishop come.

Most Spanish people with the traditional two paternal surnames (GivenName, MiddleName, FatherSurname, MotherSurname) typically go by just the father’s surname in the United States (and even at home)

So while his official Surname is most likely Zarama Pasqualetto, I’m sure he typically goes by just Zarama.

I know. I’m Hispanic.
I just find it odd that on our official Archdiocesan website there was no mention of it, ever.
Now it’s a “thing”. 🤷

Zarama Pasqualetto is his full last name - but it is common drop the 2nd last name - especially in the US.
