Bishop Daniel Edward Thomas was named Bishop of Toledo, Ohio, USA.

The diocese had been vacant since then-Bishop Leonard Paul Blair was named Archbishop of Hartford, Connecticut in October 2013.

Bishop Thomas had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

I am going to miss Bishop Blair.

I am happy that we finally have a bishop again! Praise the Lord.

Hah that’s funny… he was titular bishop of the small town where I used to live. It used to be a See city, but then the diocese was transferred to Louisville, KY. The cathedral is still present and is known as a proto cathedral and has many nice artworks donated by some French kings.

That’s kind of neat. I guess your small town titular see is vacant now. 😛

Congrats, Toledo! 👍

I miss Bishop Blair too!

My son called me last night to let me know Rocco Palmo had a tweet that the new bishop appointment would be today.

Welcome to Bishop Thomas. Here are his remarks on his appointment.

I especially like this:
Just who is this who is coming to you? Perhaps to paraphrase Saint Maximilian Kolbe, on whose feast I learned I would be your bishop, I would simply respond: I am a Roman Catholic Bishop. Just as for Saint Maximilian, his saying, “I am a Roman Catholic Priest,” was more important than announcing his name, so for me, simply stating “I am a Roman Catholic Bishop,” I think should say it all! What is important is not so much my name, but who I am for you, a father, brother, and friend in the faith.

David C2:

Glad to see you are still posting here. I posted a few in your absence.

I have met Bishop Thomas, and I think he will be pretty good for the Diocese of Toledo.

Lots of other sees coming to fill with retirements. Rumor has it that in the early fall a replacement (or a coadjutor) will be chosen for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Pope Francis I is taking his time to find the right “fit” for these upcoming vacancies.

Thanks again.
