US Bishop Changes: Ogdensburg and Scranton

This morning the Holy See announced two US appointments made by Pope Benedict XVI:

Bishop-elect Terry R. LaValley was named Bishop of Ogdensburg, New York, USA.

The diocese had been vacant since Bishop Robert Joseph Cunningham was named Bishop of Syracuse in April 2009.

Bishop-elect Joseph C. Bambera was named Bishop of Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA.

The diocese had been vacant since the resignation of Bishop Joseph Francis Martino in August 2009.

I’m not sure where Catholic-hierarcy.org is getting their info. Scranton’s press conference making the announcement is in 45 minutes. Before that, anything else seems to be just speculation.

Not that they aren’t right. They very well could be. 🙂
 
Nothing appears on Catholic-Hierarchy.org until it has been confirmed and published(normally by the Vatican).

The announcements are normally made in Rome a bit after noon - which translates to 6am US East Coast or 3am US West Coast. For obvious reasons, most US dioceses wait and have their press conferences later in the morning.

However, it is official when published in Rome.

FYI, I am the webmaster of that site.

Ah, I always forget about the time difference. 😊

I suspected that you had information that I didn’t have. I just didn’t know where you got it. That’s good to know. 👍 I didn’t mean to come off as though I doubted Catholic-Hierarchy.org’s credibility.

BTW, I love your site. It’s a great resource. I use it often. Keep up the good work! 🙂
 
Well, my family and Msgr Bambera’s family are good friends. We were all hoping he would be elevated to bishop. What a great day for the people of Scranton!:highprayer:

Try to go to his ordination - they are very cool.

(Sadly, a bit too far for me to attend.)
 
A little far for me too, but my aunts and uncles will be there!

My dad attended the ordination of my uncle, and my husband and I were visiting St. Pat’s Cathedral when we happened on one. Wow! Truly amazing.
