The US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) issued two separate statements denouncing the violence surrounding the “Unite the Right”; rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, this weekend.

It’s nice to see Racial Supremacy groups denounced by the Bishops. Their actions are abhorrent to civil society.

I wish they would continue to denounce other racial or political violence movements like BLM and ANTIFA. Those groups went to Charlotte to shut down free expression. Expression of hateful ideas, but allowable under our system.

Truth is in America we let all speak so all can see the folly of their ways or be turned to the path of wisdom. These leftist groups and their sympathizers are working to shut down this invaluable tenet of American Democracy.

Many see the rise of these White Supremacy groups as a reaction to the Marxist tactics of the left. They are just as dangerous as Neo-Nazi’s and we should not accept their totalitarian tactics any more than we would of Nazi’s…

President Trump condemned everyone involved, the Bishops just condemned one side.

Where is the evidence that BLM and ANTIFA are even a fraction as “hateful” as the white nationalists?

That is because Cardinal diNardo is a moral leader. He condemned the side that was gravely immoral.

"We stand against the evil of racism, white supremacy and neo-nazism. We stand with our sisters and brothers united in the sacrifice of Jesus, by which love’s victory over every form of evil is assured. "

I mean, is it really an issue here that these are basic evils.

In case no one has heard, only one side actually killed anyone.

.
The difference is that, while we have the civil right to express our ideas, those ideas are not therefore morally equivalent. BLM and the anti-fascists were not denounced by the bishops because their basic tenets are not abhorrent and evil. The white supremacist/neo-Nazi tenets are. That is why people are so upset with Trump talking about “good people on both sides” – you don’t get to be a racist/anti-Semite/white nationalist and still be called good.

👍 Yep. in the West today, Antifa are the clearest cut example of horrible people using the fascist tactics of the historic German National Socialists.

I agree with the bishops statement and I am glad they made it. I also agree with President Trump in that there is blame to go around on both sides. The views of the white supremacists are deplorable and should be spoken out against, but I am not believing the media narrative that the leftist counter-protestors are a bunch of saints either.

Who was looting businesses, burning cars, and attacking police officers after Trumps election? It wasn’t white supremacists. Remember all of the violent protests by white supremacists after both of Obama’s election victories? I don’t either.

It’s like World War II with the communists versus the nazis; no matter who wins, we lose. So while I think it is wise of the U.S. bishops to condemn the violent acts and hateful views of the white supremacists, I also think that Trump is wise to council caution with regards to condemning the people themselves who are white supremacists. We want to judge actions, not people themselves. Remember that even Pope Francis has praised abortionists for their humanitarian efforts on other issues in the past.

Ukraine has the worst example. And they have actual fascists. They were throwing Molotov cocktails at the police and stones. They occupied buildings, and help torchlight parades for war criminals such as Stepan Bandera.

They also murdered more than 40 people in May 2, 2014 in Odessa.
