So, in the face of a lack of formal teaching, we should just forget the avenue of government, even though the Pope, Vatican secretary of state, and other clergy have called on governments?

You love throwing left wing into a discussion. It seems the problem has existed through both ‘wings’ of the political spectrum. Non-Christians being forced to give, big government, and other similar arguments seem to be a rationalization of ways to reject the reality of having to share through taxes to our government. There are many programs our government could consider cutting back on, social programs should not be one in my opinion. Those programs give us another opportunity to give unto Caesar, that which is Caesar’s and reach the poor.

Have not all races experienced the same issues you refer too?
I have been following the thread. Again, you’re side stepping the issues. How does the government actually help the poor? Are the poor any better off since FDR and LBJ enacted and expanded government to “help?” Why is generational welfare a problem if goverment solutions are so “good?”

I don’t see how it’s a generalization. I see actions of the men of the Church and feel their requests to nations is a request to governments for assistance in the problems being discussed.
Code:
.
Of course you don’t. 🤷

Has the Pope, Vatican secretary of state, and other clergy from the Church ignored the quotes you’re using? They have called on nations, and some have specifically addressed ‘governments’?
No, but you obviously have.

Our social programs have helped the poor. Those who do not have to access, or become familiar with how it works, are blessed.

Your questions cannot be addressed in that we do not know what the ramifications would be if there had been no assistance through social programs.

I’m sorry people, but for me I cannot see cutting such programs, or supporting such cuts, as being a Christian calling.

Which programs have been cut and by how much?

No, but you obviously have.
Because I choose to see their examples and believe it teaches us it is different? I cannot see how. But you don’t have to add the ‘obvious’ ad hominems statements turning the discussion to me personally.

And I’m sorry how you can’t see, as a Christian, that people on generational welfare are violating at least 3 of the commandments. I am for a short term safety net, however we have a problem when it goes on for generations and there is/was no plan to get these people off of public assistance. Now, when push comes to shove, they will suffer more. But, as the bible says, those that are unwilling to work should be unwilling to eat.

Show me a quote from the pope or a bishop that shows preference for our large federal bureaucracy over state/local government and private charity. Then, I will take your whining seriously.

Oh please show me where Christ qualified His teachings with such?

Those excuses are arbitrary and show no compassion for those that really need. It’s almost like accepting the death penalty totally, even though some innocents may suffer a wrongful execution.

Read the article bob. It’s not a secret that social programs are up for cuts now due to those ‘negotiations’.
Actually no social program is looking at a real cut (actually receiving less money in the coming year than they’ve had previously). Their rate of growth has only been slowed - like a failed cancer treatment.

I have posted articles in other threads; however, your ad hominem statements grow old and lack charity. I will not be responding to such tactics.

My whining is me sharing what I believe the Gospels teach. Your remark is offensive to say the least, not only towards me but the teachings I believe in.

Slowing growth = “cuts” in liberal doublespeak, as has already been covered.

In other words, you’ve got nothing, once again. Thanks for nothing. 👍

They aren’t excuses. I am not (nor is anyone else) is advocating letting the truly poor die in the streets. But there is confusion as to who exactly the truely poor are. People on generational welfare as well as the welfare queens and poverty pimps are gaming the system. What’s stopping them from actually getting a job and contributing to society like the rest of us.

Christ also told people to go sin no more. I guess people forget that too.

Did Christ realize he was creating the poor with His teachings?😦

Where did Christ qualify His teachings? Where did Christ say, ‘what’s stopping them from actually getting a job and contributing to society?’

Christ taught that we should set up up large bureaucratic welfare systems? I must have missed that part of the Bible. Citation?

So, you believe Christ was in favor of able-bodied people milking a welfare system, too? You must have a different version of the Bible. 😛
