US CANON LAWYER TELLS DIOCESE TO FOLLOW MALTA, BUENOS AIRES

A canon lawyer, employed by a U.S. diocese, taught her audience including priests, that because no directives from the bishop have been issued about Amoris Laetitia, the priests should follow Buenos Aires and Malta. In those territories, priests are free to give permission to adulterous partners to receive Holy Communion, even though the couple continues to have sex, and one (or both) of the parties is already married to someone else. This permission occurs after accompaniment and discernment by the priest.

Mary’s Advocates is sharing the audio recording made at an event this year, though the person that made the recording asks for the diocese to be unidentified. All identifying information has been removed from the recording publicized here, though the full recording has been shared with personnel in the diocese for whom the canonists works.

The world needs canon lawyers like fish need bicycles.
Especially that type.

We all know about the problems in Malta, including the threatening of priests who refuse to give the Blessed Sacrament to those living in adultery.
Adultery is adultery, and no off-the-rails “expert” can change the truth. Neither can some article. Neither can a poster.

However, if the canon lawyer is the excellent Fr. Gerald Murray, I disagree with the statement. The world needs more good and holy priests like him.

You never know what Canon Lawyers will say. I read about one that said there was not a marriage that could not be annulled in his experience because his belief was that if the marriage ended up in divorce he had become convinced that there was something invalid at the time of consent.

His “record” 100%

Mary.

Why is a Canon Lawyer recommending that we ignore Canon Law in applying Amoris Laetitia? Last time I checked Canon 915 was still in effect? Or are they applying an agenda perhaps?

Canon lawyer Ed Peters has already given a robust application of Canon Law and Amoris Laetitia.
