US charges Assange with conspiracy to commit computer hacking

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

The US Justice Department just officially charged Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange, shortly after he was removed from the Ecuador embassy in London and arrested by local police. The charge is “conspiracy to commit computer intrusion” for agreeing to break a password to a classified US government computer. The Justice department also said it was in relation to “Assange’s alleged role in one of the largest compromises of classified information in the history of the United States.”

It’s the same allegation that was made in the Chelsea Manning trial in 2013, in which the former US Army private was found guilty of theft and espionage in relation to the release of classified government documents. But now that Assange has had his asylum revoked by the Ecuadorian government and has been arrested, he can finally be extradited to the US to face these charges.

More specifically, the Justice Department alleges that Assange conspired to assist Manning in cracking a password that allowed access to US Department of Defense computers that contained classified information. The alleged conspiracy was said to be carried out in March of 2010, a time when Manning was already using her access to download documents and transmit them to WikiLeaks. The DoJ alleges that during their communications, Assange actively encouraged Manning to provide more information, even after she said that there was nothing left to send – the charge of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion relates to Assange’s offer to help break a password to get more classified info.

As I said in another thread, I think Assange is a scoundrel for assisting Manning. But I’ll always be grateful that he exposed the Dem party’s anti-Catholicism. Until I read that, I didn’t know the DNC was supporting dissident “Catholic” organizations in order to change the Church in the U.S. to fit their pro-abortion, pro-homosexual ideology.

I am so glad Assange has been arrested. What the magistrate said in court this morning about him beautifully sums up Assange’s character: ‘He is a narcissist who cannot see beyond his own selfish interest’. He claims that he is on the side of freedom but when it comes to facing justice he is a coward. I would not support his resistance if he had been charged with crimes that do not exist in the West and it was somewhere like China that was seeking to extradite him. But, he has selfishly avoided accusations in the criminal justice systems of three democratic countries: Sweden, UK and USA.

I can very well believe the Ecuadorian claims that he was even abusing the privilege of the asylum with which they were providing him.

Is there a link for us to read about that?

To liberals, all disclosures of unfavorable things are to be disregarded or said not to exist at all.

Abp Chaput characterized the DNC support of dissident organizations this way:

“Thanks to their work, and activists like them, American Catholics helped to elect an administration (Obama’s) that has been the most stubbornly unfriendly to religious believers, institutions, concerns and liberty in generations,” he said.

The archbishop blasted the leaked emails as “contemptuously anti-Catholic” and shared portions of an unnamed friend’s email who described them as “some of the worst bigotry by a political machine I have seen.”

So, though I consider Assange a scoundrel for other things, I remain grateful to him for exposing the true nature of the Dem party and its efforts to undermine the Church in the U.S.

That’s the thing about these free speech questions. You have to accept both favorable and unfavorable speech, or you have to reject them both.

Or is the source one to be disregarded?
On the merits it is.
  1. Check the time stamp.
  2. Check the source - an email to someone who, much later was HRC campaign manager,
  3. Check the response, which talked of an organic, Catholic movement.
Frankly, it is weird to discuss this matter over and over again. The facts, for those who adhere to them, are clear. They do not support the wildly spun narrative that some like to promote for whatever reason.

If Assange exposed some anti-Catholicism, that is good. It’s probably something we could have guessed.

But otherwise, I’m glad he got caught. Out of Australi where Assange is from,
Foreign Minister Marise Payne says Australia remains “completely opposed” to the death penalty amid fears that Australian native Julian Assange could be exposed to such punishment if he is extradited to the United States.

One would think, this would be a non-factor. However, IF he exposed very important secrets, vital to the safety of thousands and that has been said, he needs to go to prison for a very long time. He will have his day in court.

If 2+2 = 5, then I am the pope.
The Democrats have been for forcing Catholic hospitals to commit abortions or for Catholics to pay for abortions. I certainly don’t see this as being pro-Catholic.

Or adoption agencies as well. This is troublesome.

And in fact, there was that recent ripple with the Knights of Columbus being discussed in congress, Kamala Harris and all of that…

Is it possible to stay on point?
The idea presented was: Assange "exposed the Dem party’s anti-catholicism.
That claim cannot validly be supported.
Or is the source one to be disregarded?
That source says:

WikiLeaks hack exposes Clinton staff’s past Catholic conversations

That is fair.
It goes on to say:
The chief liaison to Republican nominee Donald Trump for Catholic issues said that emails released Tuesday by WikiLeaks “reveal the depths of the hostility of Hillary Clinton and her campaign toward Catholics.”
That reporting is not unfair, but the statement from the liaison is. And anyone who can recount the actual facts cannot be unaware of that unfairness…
