The Easter Vigil is described as ‘the mother of all vigils’ in the Roman Missal
The US Catholic Church has welcomed thousands of new Catholics at the Easter Vigil in what the Roman Missal describes as “the mother of all vigils”.
About 60 of the nearly 200 dioceses in the United States reported numbers of catechumens and candidates entering the Church in 2017 to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington.

That’s good but how many more have we lost in the last year?

Zero at my church. First time no one joined since I joined…

[Jn15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.]

[Acts2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.]

Praise God! My parish welcomed approximately 25 new Catholics at the Easter Vigil. The Hispanic community’s Mass may have had some more, I’m not sure.

I read an article that said 100,000 enter the Catholic church in the U. S. every year.
That number seems high to me.

According to my pastor, most of those receiving First Communion never step foot in Church again.
I have noticed from the Easter Vigils I have attended, as far as the adults I see coming
into the Church, many times that is the last I see of them. So I have always wondered what the percentage rate is of those who complete RCIA and remain in the Church.

I guess I should say become active members of the church.
