US judge asks Vatican to serve court paper to Pope

MILWAUKEE – A federal U.S. judge is asking the Vatican to cooperate in serving the Pope and two other top officials with court papers that stem from decades-old allegations of sexual abuse by a priest in Wisconsin.

The request is an incremental - and long shot - step in a lawsuit that accuses the officials of conspiring to keep the allegations against a Milwaukee priest quiet. The Vatican is not obliged to comply with the request.

This is ridiculous. Although we were warned…the world hated Him first.

I’m sure nothing will come of this, but the Pope really needs our prayers.
 
Well, I think that legally, as the head of a sovereign nation, the pope is not subject to subpoena. If you cannot subpoena our president (and one surely cannot) then there is far less power to serve the head of a foreign state.

I really don’t see that applied here(bolded)…They hated Him because of the message/truth He brought/represented…With the popes situation, he is the top person over this widespread problem…This happened over the his and the last popes reign…The actual abuse and the cover up and relocation…Those in charge usually have to give account…Remember this isn’t flak from the spreading of the gospel and the taking heat for that…This is because of grave sin/illegal activity in the camp…Prayer is needed for all our leadership, inside and outside of the body of Christ…
 
The smartest thing he could do would be to accept it. To refuse it is just one more reason for people to doubt you.

I absolutely disagree. It would never happen but the judge should be told where that paper might be more usefully applied.
 
I agree-----this will never happen. What do they hope to accomplish, anyway? Like the Pope knows everything about each particular case. Sheesh. Just another attempt to humiliate and embarass the Pope. :mad:

I would still argue that the level of malice directed against the Pope comes from the fact that he stands in direct opposition to mainstream culture and the “dictatorship of relativism.” Some of the claims levelled against him have proven to be false, but papers like the New York Times don’t want to let anything silly like the truth get in the way of good journalism. Sure, valid criticisms of the Vatican’s handling of this grave situation can be made, but when prominent atheists start pointing out the injustices being committed against the Pope, you know things are being taken too far.

Polanski drugged and abused a girl, but he’s a Hollywood darling, so the elites tell us to go easy on him. What you said is true, but I really think it has something to do with Pope Benedict’s refusal to worship at the altar of postmodern “tolerance” - that’s why we’re seeing things like this ridiculous subpoena (hence my original post).

(Or maybe I’m being entirely too paranoid!)
 
When are they going after all the protestant denomination’s popes. Oh that is right there are around 30,000 of them, it would be impossible.

Since protestants keep all these incidents secret and the pastor just moves on to another church, because there are no records kept either it is impossible to prosecute them.

Statistics show that more protestants, among others, like teachers, coaches etc. have a higher percentage of abuse than the Catholic Church why is it that the media isn’t after them?

All this does is prove that the Catholic Church is the true Church as Christ said they will persecute you for My sake. Since no one is persecuting other churches I must conclude that is because they are not the Church Christ started.

Sorry to sound uncharitable, but this all is getting old and when protestants post the Pope should go ahead and be prosecuted, it might be wise for them to look in the mirror.

Money. Legal actions of this sort rely heavily on conditional fee agreements. The principal responsibility for sexual-abuse cases lay with the local bishops and where compensations already strain diocesan finances, the aim is for a target defendant with deeper pockets.

Oh I see. Then that means I can get a group of Americans (not to mention Europeans) who were affected directly and horribly by the GFC and sue the pants off Obama and Dubya over all the financial woes that they suffered. It happened in their presidencies, after all, and those in charge (and who is in charge of America if not the President?) usually have to give account, do they not?

You can expect this in the world, but in the church which is supposed to be above reproach…How do you recommend it be fixed? It just keep surfacing the more people are empowered by others revelations…A good Corinth style housecleaning with the accused and those involved in cover up/ movement turned over to the authorities…

Does it always have to be about money? What about the accused and those in the cover up be called accountable and receive what is due for the crimes…If it was dealt with correctly from the beginning it would have never got this much out of control…It’s a media field day now…Do you not agree
 
God purchased Peter’s freedom.

This judge wants to reneg that.
