US Postal Service to Honor Mother Teresa with Stamp in 2010

The U.S. Postal Service has unveiled its postage stamps for 2010. Among them will be a stamp honoring Missionaries of Charity founder, Mother Teresa.

Am I the only one that feels tempted to put one of these on a postcard and send it to Richard Dawkins? ;):newidea:😛
 
You may recall Dawkins gave testimony at the Vatican against the cause of Mother Theresa, and did so in a very public way, all but promising he was going to single-handedly squash any chance they would have of finding she led a virtuous life. He wasn’t very happy to find out she had more witnesses testify to the virtuous character of her life than any saint or prospective canonized ever. Dawkins thinks her entire life’s story is basically media spin, she didn’t deserve the Nobel in 1979, and believes history should discount and forget her.

So I don’t think atheism’s latest favored son would be very pleased to find the US Government recognizing Bl. Mother Theresa had something positive to give the world.

I hoped it obvious that my remark was tongue-in-cheek, and that I wouldn’t really do that to Mr. Dawkins because it would be against charity to do so. It was nothing more than whimsical thought.

Interesting - I didn’t realize there was that personal connection between the two. I’ll have to read more about this.
 
I thought USPS stamps were only supposed to depict Americans. Have they changed the rule? I was also a bit surprised by this a few years ago when they released a stamp with Frida Kahlo.

Hmmm… maybe I’m thinking of coins; I see Churchill and Sun Yat-Sen have appeared on US stamps.

Perhaps Dawkins did, as well, but I can’t find anything about it.
 
I’m pleased to hear this news. Mother Theresa certainly deserves such an honor.
