I can’t agree. Americans tend to have short memories about things that don’t affect them directly.
In a close race, you need to swing a relative handful of votes, which has happened in one week. You don’t need everyone tuned on - just enough here and there.

My Indians faded away into oblivion. Living in the Washington, DC area, I have nothing left but hope for the Nationals and the Orioles. Both are looking sad at the moment. I can’t say I wish your Cardinals any luck! 🙂 So long as the Yankees get beaten, I can pretty much live with any result at the World Series.
:nope::tsktsk::nope:

It doesn’t really matter what I’d rather have. I think Pres Obama is uninvolved. “No need to attend security meetings, we’ll let you know if something important comes up. Go play golf.” My opinion as well. I almost feel as if he got duped by his handlers. Didn’t know about this.
Yes, there was also a comical thing about picking out a dog. It took months and was a big, big deal in the media, like front-page stuff. Almost like they were picking out Falla again, FDR’s dog. Maybe that’s what they thought they were doing. :D:D

That’s what comes of watching too many Hollywood movies about FDR. :D:D

I don’t know what ever became of that dog. I haven’t heard about it in a long time.

Needless to say, dogs are cute, but the presidency is not about owning a dog. I think Obama has found that out by now. He now wears a suit jacket to work too.

Ah, here’s an old NYT article about Obama and his suit coat problems: thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/02/04/former-chief-of-staff-to-obama-put-your-jacket-on/

I have nothing against Obama’s dog or his wonderful daughters … and leave it at that.

I have nothing against his dog or his family either. I love dogs and kids. You miss my point, Dave.

My point is that he had an unrealistic attitude about what it is to be president, having never had a job like that before. The point was brought up about how fast Obama seemed to be graying. Yes, big surprises can do that to a person. It could also be genetic. But the fact remains that Obama probably wasn’t prepared for the demands of the job, and there’s a good amount of evidence that he still isn’t. Exhibit A: the debate.

I was making a jest. I see your point, but there was nothing much I could add to your excellent commentary. 🙂

Thanks, but I’m wondering how much Romney can resonate with the voters. They have to find common-ground and I’m hoping what’s there is enough. I think it is. Ann Romney is really nice and has a common touch that people seem to like. And Romney came across on the debate like the guy you’d like to have living next door to you in a decent neighborhood which is what many, many Americans have buried deep down in their psyches looking for a way to get out. He’d loan you a snow shovel and he’s not going to steal yours. He’s reliable anyway. Maybe. I hope that this is enough.

👍

BTW, Romney doesn’t talk about it much, but he’s quite the philanthropist to the communities he lives in. He pitches in and he donates, and it goes back too far to be done just for political purposes. People don’t seem to be just one more means to an end for him in his private life. More people than you think picked up on this. This is information and it squares with some of that “most deeply felt stuff” that Americans carry around with them.

Except it does. This is an election year, and you have a vote.
I almost feel as if he got duped by his handlers.
If he was so “easily duped by his handlers” then he’s not qualified to be the leader of the free world. There are trickier guys on the international stage, believe me. There’s a whole list of them, in fact. Ahmadinejad for starters.

Agreed on all points! 👍

Americans are forgiving and fair; Obama isn’t. Americans are working hard because they’re having a tough time; Obama isn’t…
Huh? Every American President is more pampered than the leader of any other nation. Yes, he has it easy, but which President hasn’t also had it so?

And this is a good reason why Obama shouldn’t even know what goes on in his own foreign policy?

NOT.

Obama only has it easy because he plays hooky on the American people, like an irresponsible schoolboy. We have problems to solve, and he’s SUPPOSED to be WORKING.

And you know what you do with people who are supposed to be working, but who are really running around playing hooky? You LET THEM GO.
You send them on their way. You hand them their briefcase and their golf clubs, and tell them to make other arrangements. You wave BYE BYE.

I disagree. Creature comforts perhaps but there are few things more exhausting than stress and tension. I think George Bush had a lot of events to deal with and worked very hard. He was known to be in early and was not one for taking luxury vacations, playing golf (he quit after 9/11) or rubbing elbows with the glitterati.

I have to shake my head at all the outrage when GB43 spent a few weeks at his ranch in Texas. Compare this to the jet setting Obama whose known to be in late and out early. Honestly I don’t think he’s been president for the past year.

Even so look at how he’s aged as did every other former president. It’s not an easy job.

I’ll agree with you about Bush and include Clinton in that, too. I was, however, speaking in general rather than attaching names to who is being pampered.

That’s an evasion, Rich, and it’s beneath you. The presidency is a very difficult job, and it takes a lot out of anybody who has it. Making it sound like a celebrity gig is just frivolous.

How would you like to deal with Ahmadinejad? Fun, huh?

Bush and Clinton (and wives) were in a good economy, and they didn’t tour the world on our dime to the extent that this President and his wife do.

To be quite frank, it is simply disgusting.

I’d just as soon see that happen to Romney, too. I’ll play no favorite. I dislike them both. I’d like to see both Obama and Romney ride off into the sunset. 🙂

Another evasion.

To your comment, that situation is not what we have though, is it?

You are several posts behind. I agreed that Bush had a hard time of it, graying his hair,as did Clinton, and that Presidents do have hard jobs.

He’s gong to be up for election. Iranian voters may well get rid of him.
