US sends forces to Jordan as check on Syria

BRUSSELS (AP) — The United States has sent troops to Jordan to bolster its military capabilities in the event Syria’s civil war escalates, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Wednesday, reflecting U.S. concerns about the conflict spilling over allies’ borders and about the security of Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal.

I voted “good idea” because ASSUMING there is a threat to Jordan, I believe Jordan is worth preserving.

I do have some difficulty believing there is a real threat to Jordan, however, and even more difficulty believing 150 troops could do much about it if there was.

Horrible plan. And now the US can simply just say “They fired on us, we’re going in”. The West and there supporters are frustrated with being unable to topple Assad so far, and now they appear to be looking for the direct approach.

With absolutely no guarantee that Assad’s replacement will not be worse, if not much worse.

I voted that this is a good idea. Jordan needs to be protected just in case Syria attacks them like they are doing with Turkey now.

I vote bad idea. It seems more like US interfering in another sovereign states internal problem and will only get more kids killed for nothing. Jordan is capable of taking care of their borders. Sell Jordan arms if necessary keep our boys out of it. We don’t owe the Syrians or the Jordanians anything so leave them alone to sort out their own problems.
