The fact that another poster has already assumed that Wambach is a married lesbian because the school she attended failed to properly catechize her says quite a bit about 1) the ignorance here regarding homosexuality,
What assumption are you making about my ignorance regarding homosexuality?
and 2) the poor assumptions here about the reasons one might understand but reject the CCC’s teachings on homosexuality.
And it’s peculiar that you are permitting for yourself the assumption that Ms. Wambach was very well catechized and understands but rejects the CC’s teaching on homosexuality.

Can you post some of her writings on this issue that tells you she was well catechized and still rejects the teaching of the Church?

LOL!

Proximity to a school tells you how well catechized its students are?

Really?

😃
I work in a Catholic high school and know the Catholic students are poorly catechized.

Forty-percent of the student body is not even Catholic.

There you go. :sad_yes:

QED.

I bet if you asked the students, “What is the Immaculate Conception”, only a handful would be able to correctly articulate this very basic concept.

If she was baptized Catholic, she is Catholic. Sorry.
She is claimed by the CC, but she ought not identify herself as a Catholic if she has divorced herself from the teachings of Christ.

And how else does one know what the teachings of Christ are, save for the CC?

We can’t really apologize for the actions of others, can we?
I wasn’t. I was noting that while I’m sorry others might not want to accept a fact of the faith, it’s still truth.

When did I say it did? I simply noted that I’m familiar with this school. I’m assuming you’re not.
Fair enough.

So are you familiar (prior, of course, to this discussion) with the religious curriculum of this school, specifically with regard to the Church’s teaching on homosexuality?

And you are familiar with the teacher who taught Wambach? And the theology courses she took there?

Could you please articulate who the teacher was, his/her explication of the teaching, and how Wambach understood this?

Nope. But I know from personal experience that one can understand the Church’s teachings on homosexuality and still reject them. I also know from personal experience that many (gay or straight) who do so also understand the CCC and still reject it. It’s only here that I run into folks who assume those who disagree just don’t understand.

So you permit yourself to make assumptions about other people’s understandings but object to others doing this to you.

I’m familiar with the school’s theology instructors. One of them baptized my second child – we have a very close and friendly relationship and have spoken many times about the school’s curriculum on morality, Church history, and theology. I’m also friends with at least 20 graduates of this school, approximately 2/3 of whom are still practicing Catholics and all of whom are extremely proud to share an alumni institution with Wambach. None of them want to ignore her or pretend she has no relationship to their school or their faith.

Incidentally, I would offer you a thought to ponder from a preacher named Tim Keller:

If you have a god who happens to agree with you on every thing, you may be worshipping an idealized version of yourself.

If you can’t say that there’s an idea you believe in that you’ve changed simply because God decreed it, then I propose that you are worshipping at the Altar of the Almighty Self, rather than the Altar of the Almighty.

NB: by “you”, I mean a rhetorical “you”. Not, necessarily, a personal “you”.

I haven’t actually made an assumption – I simply denied yours and offered examples that don’t support your assumption.

Uh, yeah, sure. Just the rhetorical “you.” Otherwise you might, you know, be pretending to know my heart as God does.

And for what it’s worth, this ain’t my first rodeo around these parts. I’m all too familiar with the claim you’re making here and I’ve rejected it elsewhere. Feel free to dig through years’ worth of posts to read my response.

Really? You reject the idea that if your god agrees with everything you believe you may be worshipping an idealized version of yourself?

Okey-dokey.

That defies logic, but go for it.

Your god happens to agree with all of your beliefs.

Because parents who are not Catholic would rather have their students segregated from the public school populace. …can I say “snobs and white”?

You didn’t mention anything about the courses Wambach took, which teachers taught her, and any demonstration that Wambach correctly articulates the Church’s teaching and yet rejects it.
None of them want to ignore her or pretend she has no relationship to their school or their faith.
Excellent. Very Catholic of them to not wish to ignore her or pretend she has no relationship to their school or their faith. 👍

Where I live we have a very interesting dynamic. Many parents send their kids to Catholic high school because the Catholic high schools here are very tolerant of kids that are “different”. The majority of public high school students are Mormon and have a reputation for being intolerant and exclusive.

But, you are right, my niece attended an all-girls Catholic high school that is very, very expensive and caters to a very affluent population. Not very white, though. They have International students that board there and are located in a part of the country that is very ethnically and religiously diverse.

I don’t know if the girls are snobby, but I would say they are high maintenance!😉

Accept what “fact of the faith”? What is “still the truth”?

First of all, I am still unsure if it has been verified that: 1) Wambach claims to be a practicing Catholic, 2) was baptized Catholic and has chosen to not practice the faith after being fully and properly catechized, 3) went to Catholic school and was not fully and properly catechized, or 4) went to Catholic high school but is not Catholic.

To claim that people are properly catechized and still reject the Catholic Church’s teachings on homosexuality is an interesting point and one that should be discussed further. I would love to hear what people say constitutes proper catechisis. The only people I know that were properly catechized are my mom (84 years old) and some students that have attended Catholic schools that teach in accordance with the Magesterium of the Catholic Church. I can count those schools on one hand.
