September 22, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), the U.S. bishops’ domestic social justice arm, says it has taken “decisive action” on a new report that reveals they have been funding groups that support abortion, contraception, same-sex “marriage,” and legalized prostitution.

The organization’s funding practices have been the subject of growing scrutiny in the last several years, especially after it was revealed that CCHD had funded the scandal-plagued ACORN organization to the tune of millions of dollars.

their response only rates as “somewhat decisive” at this point 🙂

**US bishops asked to disband CCHD
**
A Washington-based “watchdog” group has called upon the US bishops’ conference to disband the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), a group that has been criticized frequently for funding radical groups that support anti-Catholic causes. Terrence Scanlon, the president of the Capital Rearch Center, has written to each member of the American hierarchy, arguing that the “CCHD does a disservice to all Catholics when it asks them to make a contribution to organizations whose mission is more often political than charitable." Citing his own group’s study, which showed multiple connections between the CCHD and anti-Catholic organizations, Scanlon suggested that the CCHD should be either abandoned or thoroughly reformed.

oh my goodness, may god forgive me! I donated to this group from work because it was the only catholic foundation I could find in the list. What part of Catholic did these people not get? This is beyond belief to know that I gave to a foundation who gave my money to others so they could do things which is against everything I believe in.

Don’t beat yourself up too much. We too, have blood on our hands for all the money we’ve donated over the years to Catholic Relief Services. The bishops themselves are responsible for this - may God have mercy on them. Where and who is responsible for the vetting process?

Just remember this…if the CCHD is repenting of its sins, don’t believe them, and if they are not disbanded, don’t give a penny to them ever again. We heard the same tune when the ACORN scandal was exposed, and we were assured that our donations would be safe and put to good use, yet here we are again, a year later with another scandal. Actually, this has been going on for a number of years.

Find a local charity that is NOT political and give to it. The safest thing is to stay completely away from the “Social Justice” groups that are now global.

Frankly I can not in good conscience ever donate money to the USCCB again. In fact the only one I will listen to is the Pope, Archbishop Burke, and the Vatican. Perhaps a few more such as Chaput and a few others.

But never, ever again will I trust the USCCB. They dropped the ball on their voter guide last year, and now we find out they have supported the “Party of Death” with our hard earned money. Money that I always thought was going to do good.

Never again will I trust them.

Just curious, but are our Bishops actually making any changes? Are they disbanding this group? Is there any action to correct this?

Just my two cents, but the website linked doesn’t look to necessarily be the best source of fair reporting.

It seems a major “issue” pops up with the CCHD every seven years or so. Things’ll quiet down. And everyone will forget - again.

I emailed my bishop about this, and he basically said this source is faulty. Domine, miserere nobis
Did he give any explanation why the Bellarmine Veritas Ministry report is faulty? I noticed the the BVM put up a response this afternoon to a recent memo issued by Bishop Morin:
bellarmineveritasministry.org/

Facts are important. If the BVM is mistaken somehow, I don’t see why the CCHD would have defunded two of the listed groups.

WHAT? Probably would accept it coming from National Catholic Reporter!!!
The scandal last year was true and if we dig far enough, I’m sure we could have some
more sources.
For years now I have given directly to the Catholic Charities of my choice, both locally and
nationally/internationally. I try to vet them as much as possible, especially what part of the dollar actually goes to the recepient/project. I know some money goes to marketing
and other expenses, but some charities really get a lot of bang for the buck.:D:D
I also do this for regular charities. The Foundations, Heart, Diabetes, Cancer, Kidney
are using a lot of the money for escr, and even if you earmark your dollars not to be
used for that purpose, it frees up other dollars to go there. My daughter worked at one
of those. She was all over me when she first went there, but the longer she worked
there, the more she saw that I was right. I have found some charities that actually use almost every dollar on the patient. ie, reimbursing them for transportation to dialysis treat-
ments, paying for expensive drugs, etc. These are harder to find, since they don’t have
massive campaigns for marketing, advertising.
Sorry to get off topic. I am very sad that the Bishops have turned so much to organizations like ACORN and their many splinter groups (did you see the list of all that
ACORN organizations throughout the country and all the money they get on Fox?)

I emailed my bishop about this, and he basically said this source is faulty. Domine, miserere nobis
So which part did he say was faulty, that the CCHD did not, in actuality, give money to these organizations, or that the organizations did not, in fact produce the documents in question?

I emailed my bishop about this, and he basically said this source is faulty. Domine, miserere nobis
Did he say anything about the organizations the CCHD has funded in the past - like ACORN, or PICO which operates mobile health vans that dispense “healthcare” services and refer their clientele to Planned Parenthood, or how about The Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center, a Seattle-based leftist Catholic group actively promoting women’s ordination, radical feminism, socialism, and radical environmentalism? Or how about The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME) which is a member of the IAF and has joined forces with NARAL, NOW, and Planned Parenthood to also provide abortion services to the poor. Or how about the Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC), whose president has been honored by the CCHD and who made the statement that he and his members believed that life began at conception, **but also argued that building unity in the class struggle was more important. **

We would like to hear your bishops defense of these groups as well. You may see the amounts of money the CCHD has given them by going directly to the list of grantees on the USCCB web site. Many of the organizers of these groups are, or were, members of Call to Action, the most dissident group of them all. Their agendas are not only in direct conflict with Catholic moral teaching, but have other hidden motivations directly opposed to free market capitalism.

You can check the USCCB web site & open the pdf which lists all the org’s they are still giving money to.

I checked; in my state there are still 6 which are getting $25,000.00 or more. Common Ground is getting $50,000.00 (this one is under the IAF). The others are under Gamaliel. Look them up here:
gamaliel.org/default.htm or on
discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7004Voces Fronteras promotes govt support of all immigrants (probably including illegal ones) and all these groups want the govt health care deal/public option.

If you find out if any Alinsky-style org’s are in your state and the CCHD supports them, list them, along with the amount and send it to your Dioceses’ Chancel office.

Scroll down until you see: Recently Funded Initiatives, then below you’ll see pdf’s for different years. You’ll have to scan to find your area (the list is long). If you are familiar with any of the groups in your area (some of which use biblical sounding names, like JOSHUA), check to see if they are listed also at the Gamaliel site, or do a google search.

PM or email me if you’d like a flier you can customize to educate others in your area about “faith-based community organizing” and how their social justice is not compatible with Church teaching.

This is serious stuff, folks. I hope you will choose to get involved. AND PRAY for Catholics to defend our CHurch!

I give money directly to organizations I know are worthy, such as the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Food for the Poor, and a local food pantry which gives food to the poor. In such cases you well know what the money is going towards.

If the Catholic church is guided by the Holy Spirit, then how is it that our Church in America manages to support all these “Political” groups that promote Abortion, Homosexual agenda, and Communist takeover of the U.S??? On top of that the majority of Catholics in this country supported/voted for this nightmare taking place. Can a church guided by the Holy Spirit really act like this?

“By their fruits you shall know them”. From this biblical statement, things aren’t looking to good right now. The fruits of USCCB/CCHD have been National support of organizations seeking (successfully) to enforce abortion:, homosexual, and communist ideals on all of us.

We have Nuns working alongside Planned Parenthood, and in abortion clinics. We have a priest jailing abortion-protesting priests and nuns and getting re-elected to his presidency. And where is the USCCB’s voice in all of this? Yet another fruit, from the fruit of silence, this fruit just allows this stuff to expand and continue on, by their silence.

The USCCB comes out and tries to tell congress that Abortion in the bill is bad, but yet, while they say this, they continue to fund Pro-Abortion organizations.
Seems to me like the pillar of truth has chipped away, crumbled, and let the truth fall on the ground.

Where is the Pillar and Foundation of Truth in all this?
