My husband and I have shopped at King Books, too, for nigh on 25 years. What a treasure trove!

I purchased a complete set of leather-bound, pocket-sized Shakespeare that was published in the 19th century for $30. Only one book has some notes in it, the others are pristine. They have a whole section of those Franklin Mint leather-bound classics, unread, which you can usually buy quite cheaply (or at least we’ve bought several over the years).

I’m a Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) scholar and have found many, many hard to find, out of print books by him or about him, including his diaries and a biography by his nephew.

I also buy a lot of books from American Book Exchange online (abebooks.com). Any time I want any book I check ABE first, even if it’s a recent book. I recently bought a relatively new special quilting book that retails for $45 for $18 from ABE, and it was brand new and in library binding.

If I had my druthers, though, Stillwater, Minn. would be my hang-out.

Dress really warm in winter and cool in summer.

Yes, I’m speaking of Loome’s. It’s wonderful online, but it’s better in person. Especially if you like theology and philosophy.

The town is pretty, too, even in early March.

If you’re ever in the Twin Cities (or in La Crosse, Wis., where I was when I decided to drive there), it’s worth it.
