Hi I hope someone can help me. I recently learned in my community the practice of Reiki is being taught as a way of connecting with our angels. It states reiki opens us to new levels of wisdom, understanding and healing. The level or healing reached will enable all to grow in compassion, and the open our hearts to a wounded world.

I also understand that reiki is a new age practice. Yet when I brought up my concerns about the use of Reiki I was told by the diocese more or less that there is nothing wrong with teaching Reiki and yes many catholic fundamentalist also disagree with it but things change. Help can someone clarify this…

Hi ba bustanti,

Reiki is not what you need to be connected with your guardian angel closer.
I don’t know anything about Reiki, but this kind of a new age practice is against catholic teaching.
Don’t let yourself to fall into a strange form of faith. If you need to feel your guardian angel’s existence pray to him even talk to him,he’s near you all the time.
In times of need I pray to him, talk to him,ask for his help.I feel his existence and was touched by his loving spirit physically a time ago(he touched my hand)and that’s the most moving experience in my life. He’s always here with me,he protects me and loves me.
You will understand that you don’t need another form of faith to get in touch with your guardian angel,ba bustanti.
I don’t intend to offend you,but you don’t need Reiki,ba bustanti.

God bless!

Reiki is not a way of “connecting with angels”. If anything, it may connect one with the bad angels!

Obviously some priests are not aware of the dangers of certain new age practices, but thankfully, there are many who are.

Thank you Dorothy for your reply “reiki is not a way of connecting with angels. It may connect one with bad angel.”

The prayers are beautiful that have been posted. I for one know that I would not be alive today if my angel would have been asleep at the wheel. However, I wanted so much for others to share information on “reiki” and if it is practiced in other catholic retreats. I am not ready to drink the kool-aid so to speak and I am just hoping this practice of reiki can be clarified. Some have told me just don’t get involved its not for me to say or do anything about. This scares me even more. I am also curious how the church would condone this practice if it is new age. This is why I am posting does anyone know if it is new age.

The deacon from the diocese quoted me the words of Blessed Pope John XXIII. “In non essential matters let there be diversity, in essential matters let there be unity and in all matters let there be charity.” The deacon told me catholicism by its very nature is not a narrowly defined set of beliefs or a way of life but is a faith that tests and embraces all that is good for growing closer to God from all cultures, langhuages and peoples. Do we now accept Scientology and use its practices because there is some good there? Thoughts anyone?

I think you will find this informative. There is a woman called Moira Noonon who had been into 'new age" practices for years before her return to the Church. She wrote of her experiences of the dark side in the book “Ransomed from Darkness”.

Here is an article where you can read about her. The paragraph on reiki comes up if you scroll a little more than half way down.

sdnewsnotes.com/ed/articles/2002/0402mn.htm

You may even want to buy and read her book to be informed. You can do a search for her personal website as well.

Please be aware that just because a Catholic nun, or a deacon, or even a priest recommends certain new age practices (and, one can find retreats where these dangerous and misleading ideas are discussed and practiced) it doesn’t mean it is Catholic teaching or that it is okay. One must be very discerning today.

In some Catholic bookstores I am told one can buy “A Course in Miracles”. Father Benedict Groeschel knew the woman who wrote this, and he explains that it is dangerous and misleading.

I believe that the deacon who quoted Pope John XXIII as you mention above, is putting his own interpretation on that quote.

Correction:

Moira Noonan is the correct spelling of that woman’s name -
not Noonon.

Is…
if it is being presented as a method for manipulating supernatural beings like angels into responding to our demands, then that is proof positive it is a dangerous practice one of those against the 1st commandment.

Our daughter is a massage therapist and says to stay away from reiki. **IT IS NOT OF GOD! **At least the Triune God, the only one that begins with a capitol G.

Our daughter is a wonderful young woman with a very strong faith in Jesus Christ and his Church. Anyway, she had a massage once from someone she thought she was familiar enough with to trust, as she does not let just anyone do a massage for her. Well the woman, unbeknowing to our daughter use reike on her. She was so sick as soon as she got up from the table. It was truly a spiritual battle, we had to pray and layed hands and annointed her to break off what had attached to her from it. It took several weeks for us to get her back to good health.

There is good energy work and there is bad energy work. I think (my opinion and our experience) this is ‘bad’ work.

I have looked into Reiki, and nuns can be the Reiki masters…but have never heard of it looked at as connecting with angels…hmm.

I can never understand the appeal Reiki has for many Catholic’s… And when you scratch the surface of why some find it appealing you will find that they really don’t have an understanding of how Reiki works.

As I have posted before the universal energy in Reiki comprises of “Yin and Yang” or energy opposites (ex. dark/light…cold/hot). In Japanese this energy is called “In and Yo”. Why anyone would want to mess around with an energy force that needs to be kept in balance is beyond me.

Can you imagine if the Trinity was looked upon as an energy that needs to be kept in balance? I have read many Reiki practicioners with a Christian background use excuses from “well, its the Holy Spirit we are focusing on and not the complete Godhead of the Trinity”…“oh I pray to Jesus before I do Reiki so its ok” and other nonsense…God is NOT divided… And neither are the 3 Divine Persons of the Trinity.

Whether Reiki can have one contact an Angel (and I highly doubt its a heavenly angel) is something I could care less about and prefer to stay as far away from as possible. I don’t need an energy source that needs ME a mere human being to keep it in balance… I have never tried to play the role of God or push God around and won’t start now. :gopray:

It is good you are asking such questions and have your doubts. 👍

God bless

The deacon got it wrong twice. First, new age beliefs such as Reiki are very dangerous. Second, he was quoting Augustine, not the Pope.

The deacon from the diocese quoted me the words of Blessed Pope John XXIII. “In non essential matters let there be diversity, in essential matters let there be unity and in all matters let there be charity.” Diversity is good, Unity is good, Charity is good. But the deacon needs to differentiate charity and sanity. In all matters, let there be sanity! I would ask your deacon why he is focusing on getting in touch with an angel and not focusing on getting in touch with Christ! I am not saying that asking your angel to pray for you is bad, but what does he mean by “getting in touch”?

From what Maryam said, this form of prayer is what we need to avoid. I would ask him why he’s not using the Rosary instead. The Rosary is intended to let God mold and shape us - not the other way around

Reiki is a great way to connect even further with God. I highly encourage you to find out more about it. This is a good site.

Around where I live the priests at my church are Reiki Masters. I wish you well in this spiritual journey!

I am so sorry to hear that. My heart is greatly saddened.
I hope what you said is not true. I can only pray…😦

You’ll get over it. There is nothing wrong with spreading light to people, is there? I didn’t think so.

Can’t have everyone share your un-researched beliefs about reiki, now can you?

I totally disagree. Reiki is not a way to connect further to God or angels. Jesus directly gave his disciples the power to heal, to cast out evil spirits and sent the Holy Ghost to them. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.”

Reiki is based on an ancient Japanese concept that has no Christian connection. The power Jesus gave to His disciples did not require Reiki. It is a deception, along with the use of crystals and many other New Age beliefs.

The power to heal comes from God. Reiki does not recognize God but a “force” or energy that can be manipulated, but is not connected to God in any way. They imply that it is but it is not.

Avoid it.

God bless,
Ed

Devil can pretend as the angel of light. My position is based on Church teaching.

I bet you wouldn’t recognize Jesus if he came to your house. You’d probably say that he as the devil ‘faking’ light. By the way, I’m well practiced in defending myself against demons. God has even used me to heal three other people possessed by demonic entities. Demons hate Reiki, so that should tell you something. What is the problem as long as you draw the healign energy from God? Or are you saying that God won’t hear me and some demon will come instead? That doesn’t sound liek God to me. Besides, if you request positive energy you will get it.

This energy comes from the Holy Spirit, not Reiki.

I’ve been reading about all of the various New Age practices for a while now. None of it is from God. The Occult has become the New Age. Healing crystals, channeling, and on and on. New name, same contents.

In Christ,
Ed

How is it manipulating God? It is almost like prayer, except more personal, thus more powerful. We ask that God heal the person, and he does. Just like prayer. So is prayer manipulating God as well?
