A Roman Catholic priest said he’ll end a monthly Mass for gays and lesbians after criticism from some parishioners.

He started the service in January at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Some parishioners have complained that Bussen failed to explain the church’s position on homosexuality and instead gave mixed messages during a sermon.

“This is not about Father Bob. He’s a wonderful, caring man,” parishioner Joseph Ozog said. “We just want to be sure that he’s representing the views of the church.”

I honestly see no point in separate masses for anyone. Why are we so adamant on dividing ourselves, when we are all God’s children? Whats so bad about worshiping together as believers?

I think these parishioners have the right idea. Its good that they weren’t afraid to take action in making sure their priest is teaching in accordance with the Church. Though I still think if they’re going to make him end this mass, they should stop the others too. The Church is supposed to be about unity, not division and segregation.

The biggest advantage I see is having a seperate Mass for homosexuals or adulterors is that the priest can address their issues directly in a sermon.

The Church’s position on homosexual acts needs to be conveyed clearly and without reservation. But at a regualar Sunday Mass with children present might not be the correct place.

How does a priest balance the need to address the intrinsic wrongness of homosexual acts with the presence of small children?

MHO, you do it with general terms and address it more specifically in a group setting, such as with the ministry Courage.
Hats off to the priest who listened to the ones who had concerns. Good intentions do not always equal good ideas. Especially in an age of “confusion” where you can find someone to agree with what you are doing no matter if it is considered a grave sin or not.

Way to go.👍

Separate masses are never what they are cracked up to be regardless…

If the Gospel of the day says we should be talking about homosexuality…then go for it (of course, I have a hard time figuring out when Jesus talked about that).

I have LONG Thought that. We want our priests to teach unambiguously and forthrightly, but do we want our little children aware of these things? For some, it would be so early, IMHO.

Of course, perhaps this only makes an argument for a “family mass,” where such matters could be addressed, perhaps, more obliquely, I dunno. Maybe that’s the only “seperate” mass that there should be.

When He nuked Sodom?

I totally agree. While we are all at different stages of life, to craft a mass to meet the needs of each group (teens, mid life, elderly or anyother group) is to make the Mass centered around us. Why not “Baby Boomers Mass” or how about “Mass for those who drive four cylinder vehicles”? We have become so man centered. When one contemplates the cross during the sacrifice of the Mass, many questions can be answered…we should be conduits and signposts to the One who can answer questions and not use mass as a lobbying tool to suit very specialized needs. We all have needs…why not come to Holy Mass as ONE needy people!

The same time He addressed rape, incest, and beastiality.

If you think your small children aren’t hearing about homosexuality already, you are sorely mistaken. Even if they are not in school, one need only turn on the TV for a few hours. A child will be introduced to this issue on even the most innocent of channels. I can’t imagine that a priest in a homily would be any more explicit than what children will see on television. Since the schools and the media clearly think no child is too young to be taught that homosexuality is “Okay”, we Catholics had better start playing catch up.

Beofre he made that quote he should research what the Church teaches. The parishoners should be commended.
No, they are not to be commended. The official stance of The Holy Catholic Church on Homosexuality is that it is a tendancy of action. While homosexual acts are not condoned by God and are considered a sin, homosexuals themselves are loved by God as are all people and they are to be accepted as our brothers and siters in Christ just like any other person. Holding a seperate mass for homosexuals is at odds with this edict.

I am talking about the parishoners that spoke out against the Mass. Maybe you misunderstood me?
