Vaccines Required for Catholic School

I find it odd that the school is taking such a hard line on this. I absolutely think the kids should be vaxxed but I’m surprised that the school won’t work with you.

In my state, there is a religious exemption which my ex uses. She says she is Catholic and that vaccines are against the basic tenets of the Church. It’s a lie that she commits on the affidavit every year.
And the courts believe her in the matter of Catholic rules about vaccines? The judges and lawyers ought to know better. Did you tell them that it’s false? Did your lawyer present any argument at all?

I don’t know how awful your ex is, but they are young enough to still get benefit from Catholic school (in my opinion). And I don’t know about your state, but in my state the older one is getting close to the age when he could give (name removed by moderator)ut about which parent he would want to live with. Something similar in your state maybe?

My inclination would be to discuss this with my divorce attorney.

I am legitimately on the autism spectrum, I hope that the refusal to vaccinate is not based on the very much disproven belief that vaccines cause autism and other rated disorders. Now, there are some issues with vaccine, but that is not one of them. Even if they did (which they don’t), that would be telling me people would rather have me dead than autistic. Either get them vaccinated, or don’t send them to that school.

The only clear answer to this dilemma is going to come from the school. Call and make an appointment to talk with someone there about this. If your ex is open to having the boys at this Catholic school, the school may make an exception to the vaccine requirement – or you may find the requirement isn’t as strict as you thought. Don’t ask a bunch of strangers on the internet for advice before you even determine what the exact problem is.

I think she meant it the other way, that most states allow homeschooled kids to go around unvaccinated.

Lying on an affidavit in order to get around the law is the criminal behavior.

I’ve been through a high-conflict divorce – you have my sympathy. However, it’s highly unusual for the courts to allow one parent to make medical decisions, particularly decisions that are negative, unilaterally.

As others have said, this is something you should take to your attorney. It may require a hearing with, at least, the Friend of the Court, to order vaccinations. The Church has no teaching that vaccines are immoral, and has clearly stated that even those that originate with aborted cell lines are acceptable if there is no alternative. In fact, the Church teaches that vaccines are to be encouraged.

If it is a Diocese school, going to the Office of Catholic Schools with a plea is an option.

…well, that’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. Do NOT go behind her back!

The problem here is that the school policy may or may not reflect the actual teachings of the church.
There is sufficient wiggle room written into the catechism to provide solid ground for claiming that exemption.

You may believe it a lie. Everyone here may as well… but ultimately it is not possible to prove.

I know quite a few anti-vaxxers. None of them are for reasons involving autism.

Prayers go out to you. 🙏
I believe all kids should be vaccinated. But that is my opinion and I realize you do not want to make this info a pro 👍 or against 👎 thread.
