I had a door to door guy come to my house for a Kirby demonstration. If I had the money I would have bought it!

our new carpet was too much for my old kenmore:rolleyes:. do you have a good vaccum. how are those bagless ones.
I love, love, love my Dyson. It never clogs, is very easy to empty without a lot of dust flying back at you, and the onboard attachments are great. You can pick one up for about $400. If you have pets, Dyson has the Animal, which is about $600, and really sucks up the animal hair.

Get a Kirby. We bought a used one, or you can get rebuilt ones for like $100 or a little more. Works just as good as the new $1000 and up ones. 👍 They last forever, so you are still getting a good vacuum that will last years and years. And they really do work as good as the door-to-door salesmen say they do.

Any upright with a bag and a 12 amp motor will work fine on carpets if you change the bag often and replace the beater drive belt yearly. You can buy a LOT of extra bags and belts with the $400 you saved over getting a Dyson.
You either don’t have a dog, or you have a poodle. 🙂

I’ve killed my Bosch bagless upright several times now, with hair clogging up the carpet beater brush and burning out the beater brush motor. Can anyone recommend a vacuum cleaner whose beater brush doesn’t get clogged with hair and burn out the motor? Or do I just have to take it apart and cut the hair off more often? (sigh)

Am I the only one this happens to?

I really like this thread because I’m in the market for a vacuum now that I’m moving out of my parents’ home, but can anyone reccommend anything cheaper?? I simply cannot afford a $600 vacuum!

I doubt there is such a thing. I pretty regularly clean the hair out of the brush by cutting it up with a pair of scissors and just pulling it out. It really makes a difference on how well the vacuum cleaner works. It takes about 5 minutes, but is definitely worth it.

Right. Cut the hair out. I have a long-haired dog and do this all the time. No big deal.

We bought a Hoover Whirlwind 6 years ago for a ridiculous price. It’s a good, solid vac but on the heavy side. Great suction but the attachment extensions fall off frequently. Next vac WILL be a Dyson.

I went through two Whirlwinds and got a Dyson a couple of years ago. It does clean much, much better. The attachments on the Dyson fall off too though. Bummer.

Maybe if we could divert 5 of the scientists working on global warming, we could come up with a vacuum that has sturdy attachments.

wow thanks for all the (name removed by moderator)ut. i’ll be rereading this all week

After alot of vacuumes breaking and costing us a lot of money on the way, we went the “keep it simple” route. We purchased a Eureka commercial vacuume for under $200.00. All it does is standard vacuuming. No attachments (less to break). What I like about it is that I can replace any piece that does break. If all you want to do is vacuum. This is the one to get.

LOVE my Dyson, and I have no complaints about attachments. The hose is tough…I’m not worried about it cracking and being useless like happened with my Eureka.

Look at Amazon.com. They have factory refurbished Dysons for substantially less! That’s how I got mine! 😃

I love my Rainbow. My carpet is so clean and i love that there is a water basin instead of a bag. It is kind of like a Kirby and it’s more expensive to buy from a door-to-door salesman. Once a Kirby salesman came to my door and demonstrated his. He asked me to vaccuum w/ my current vaccuum, so i took out my Rainbow. I vaccuumed, and he couldn’t get any more dirt up than what i did.

It costs about $1,000 - $2,000 but the stores should have refurbished ones for cheaper. I do recommend a salesman show you how to operate it otherwise your incorrect usage could void the warranty. I had a coworker leave water in the basin all the time, and never change it out, and it broke. Duh! There is no filter to change, there is one small filter i take out and brush & rinse w/ water once every 6 mo. I have to clean the hair (human and pet) out of the wooden spool in the power nozzle every time i vaccuum but the only way to prevent that is to shave the family bald.

You can probably look up info about it at www.rainbowsystems.com

Also, there is a shampooer you can buy to attach to the Rainbow too. Honestly, I did like the Kirby shampooer feature better cuz it actually “dry cleaned” the carpet instead of shampooing it.

Once I went Dyson (Pet) I never looked back.

The Dyson tackles the shedding of 5 shiba inus with no prob!

I got mine at Target on clearance for $340. (You can do as well on eBay.) I never regretted 1¢ of that - worth every penny!
