Vandals deface church statues
Police are still looking for the those responsible for defacing the limestone statues of saints at Immaculate Conception Church.

Police were called to the church Jan. 31 and found someone had spray-painted eight of the statues. In each case, the saints’ faces were spray-painted red. In the courtyard where the statues stand, a brick wall had “666” painted in black. The other side of the wall had a red pentagram.

The doors on two nearby garages owned by the church were defaced in a similar manner. One had “fallen angels” with “666” under it in black. The other had red pentagrams surrounded by “666.”

That pisses me off. What’s worse is these scumbags probably know they aren’t going to get caught. Here’s another irony, these little brats are in their rebellious phases, they wouldn’t have done this if they didn’t think they had something to prove. They wouldn’t have done it if they didn’t think there was something to rebel against. They’ll probably be in pews asking for forgiveness someday.

FYI, if this type of vandalism happens at your parish, home or business on hard surfaces such as limestone or concrete, there is a restoration process that will remove either the greater majority of the paint and possibly all of it.

So this is called an act of vandalism. I’m outraged. This is nothing less than blasphemy and anti-Catholicism. Why don’t news reporter ever use the proper words?

Well, while I tend to be hyper over anti-Christian and anti-Catholic acts: The description of this crime causes concern for the vandals.

Think about the M.O. - they attacked some statues and graffitied a wall with a common number using a paint can. Ergo, they are likely immature teens who have been pumped up with the falsehoods spreading in the media. They may be influenced by some anti-Catholic rhetoric they hear somewhere. They are neither terrorists, nor professional criminals.

So consider:

If they are so far away from anyone who would straighten them out, they are really alone with the devil.

If no one at home represents Christ to them, and hasn’t even let them pick up on it, they are being spiritually abused, and they may be subject to other types of abuse as well.

They may be mentally disturbed, or possibly under the influence of malicious spirits. (Possibly including their teachers, friends, parents, etc.)

So, in all, these are probably young males in trouble with their souls at risk.

May the Lord help them before they do something they really cannot take back or make right or live down.
