Madrid, Jun 14, 2008 / 03:00 am (CNA).- A group of vandals destroyed a statue of St. Anthony of Padua at the parish of San Miguel in Valladolid, which the pastor Father Javier Gomez called “an total attack against religious freedom.”
The latest attack was another in a series of acts of vandalism that began on Corpus Christi. For several days afterwards the glass panel that protects the statue of St. Anthony has been covered in satanic graffiti and inverted crosses, the priest said.

Disgusting! I hope they catch the vandals and severely punish them! I love St. Anthony of Padua as he is my patron saint and so this makes this even closer to my heart than usual.

I pray the vandals seek enlightenment as to why they destroyed this statue, and if they are regretting their actions that they may ask for the gift of true contrition of their sin.

And I pray for the Peace of Christ to come to those in anger over this event.

You are right. I should not hope for revenge but for their repentance. I’m sorry. 😊😦

Yesterday was his feast day too. St. Anthony, please intercede with the conversion of these vandals. Pray for them and us.

Aw, shucks, I was with the indignated OP.😊

sigh Not a fun war, is ours. To fight bullets with Bibles, hatred with Love.

It was just a statue…Ha ha, why should stone escape riducule, when Our Lord was spit upon?

You are right. And I suppose we should be thankful that something worse did not happen like a priest being attacked or a Mass being disrupted or something. 🙂

Being in a constant historical mindset, I find it delightfully fitting that these men are being called Vandals, especially since this happened in a Catholic church in Spain. Ah, the irony of history.
I do hope these men are brought to proper justice and they repent of their ill intentions, God willing.

I second that.
