The pope’s video message is broadcast on the island on the eve of his arrival. “I shall visit you to share faith and hope, so that we can fortify each other by following Jesus,” he said. Tomorrow’s departure signals the start of the longest papal trip. In the US, he will meet Obama, speak at the UN, visit Ground Zero and bring to a close the VIII World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia.

I agree with post #2.

Otherwise, there are so many of these stories coming out on the upcoming visit.

Unless of course you’re a dissident protesting the regime.
In his message, the Holy Father thanked Cuban Catholics for preparing this visit with prayers. "We need to pray; we need prayer; [we need] that contact with Jesus and Mary.”

“For my part,” he went on to say, “I would like to convey a very simple message, but I think it is important and necessary: Jesus loves you very much; Jesus really loves you. He always carries you in his heart. He knows better than anyone else what everyone needs, what your longings are, what your deepest desire is. He never abandons us, and even when we don’t act as he expects us to, Jesus is always at our side, ready to welcome us, to comfort us, to give us a new hope, a new opportunity, a new life. He never leaves. He is always there.”

In ending his message, the pontiff encouraged Cubans “to be missionaries of God’s infinite love. May no one miss the witness of our faith, of our love. May all the world know that God always forgives, that God is always with us, that God loves us.”

Pope Francis’ message is obviously for us all.

Lets not try to twist the facts here: His messages may be for everyone but he IS NOT visiting with dissidents. He either is afraid to rock the boat or simply agrees with Castro.

In my humble opinion, there are a lot of inferences being made on this forum involving who Pope France is meeting with and who he is not meeting with - as well as who is among the 15000 people people holding tickets to the arrival ceremony at the White House for Pope. These inferences are expressions of partisan politics.

I think that these attempts to politicize the Pope’s mission are regrettable. His Holiness asked for our prayers - not our personal political evaluations. In my opinion, our time would be better spent considering Pope Francis’ words: “May no one miss the witness of our faith, of our love. May all the world know that God always forgives, that God is always with us, that God loves us.”
