You’re comparing St. Peter to a mob boss?

No one is judging the man’s soul. For all we know, he repented and died in the state of grace.

It’s not the point. It’s the scandal of giving a mobster a place of honor for his burial, because of a family bribe, and probably prestige that mafia families have in various parts of the world.
**
BTW, does a burial plot in Rome only cost $350 **?

Jim
It was a joke:o

According to here:

coinmill.com/ITL_USD.html#ITL=1000000

One billion lire is a little less than $700 US. I have no idea if it’s accurate.
But of course, ā€œone billion lireā€ sounds like a WHOLE lot of money, and is certainly an eye catcher!
It’s actually closer to $400,000 (based on an exchange rate of 2500 lire/1$) šŸ˜‰

No way the Vatican would ā€œsell outā€ for ā€œonlyā€ $400,000 (and I do not accept the argument that they did sell out). There is more to this story…

Was the website I listed THAT wrong? Or was I measuring a different currency?

EDIT:: I now realize I measured one MILLION lires…not one billion lires. Woops. :o

Nope. What St Peter did was worse. He knew the Son of God personally, in the flesh, if you will, and still denied Him.

In no way saying that this man was a saint, or even a very nice guy, BTW.

Nor do I want to come across as confrontational with you, in any way. It’s just that the Church has so many enemies. There have been some horrible things done by some of Her members, sure. I still think we should give Her the benefit of the doubt.

St.Peter died a martyr on a cross for his Lord and Saviour, his sin of denying Christ had been repented of, bitterly cried over ages prior. To compare him to a mafia guy to make this sound somehow legit is clutching at straws and disrespectful for the ā€œrock on which I will build my Churchā€.

I am not being disrespectful. I am saying that St Peter at one point denied our Lord. He obviously became a great saint afterwards, and is one of my heroes.

My point is that we do not know the state of the mafia man’s soul at the end. Maybe he repented. Maybe the Church knows this. I trust her. And I make no apologies for that:)

First of all, no one has mention that the source of the story is a Belfast, Northern Ireland newspaper is most likely fiercely anti-Catholic, so their is no chance of getting an honest story. Secondly, never forget:ā€œNo good deed ever goes unpunishedā€ !😃

But let’s not let that get in the way of a chance to bash the Church. Much more fun to just assume it’s true without doing any further research.

The sad fact is that the church is riddled with fallen men (and a few women) who either think they are doing the right thing or are guided by the devil to knowingly do the wrong thing. There are literally thousands of catholic clergy who fall victim to the 7 deadly sins (greed, envy, lust, etc). Fortunately there are thousands more who do the right thing but you wont hear much from the media about these people.

I reckon that by having Judas as an apostle, Jesus was telling us that one in twelve of his clergy would not be true followers.

At the end of the day we always have had scandal in the church and always will have it The only way we can stop it in the future is by having non human clergy

Really. Who cares? The man’s dead. The Church says it is a good thing to bury the dead. Who cares where they’re buried? I mean, c’mon. Really. Dead is dead. Where is soul is, has already been decided. Same for the Popes.

Clearly, the real story here is why is the secular press making such a big deal out of nothing?
Whether his body remains are near those of the popes or in a jungle unburied, what matters is his soul. this fuss by the media is not new, instead of reporting developments and progress they report falsehood and useless stuff. Anyway they do not know what they are doing…persecuting HIM.

There are other newspapers reporting this, not just Belfast ones… I for now wait till we get to the end of the story instead of going crazy during the middle of it…

One source even used the term " Alleged " so we’ll know the truth sooner rather than later, I hope…

Judge not your brother, I’d think.
and how would feel if a notorious mobster responsible for killing your family for example was buried in Basilica, a place of high prestige???

I wouldn’t be too happy about it.
frankly I don’t inderstand the Catholics on here who say ā€œhe’s dead who caresā€ and ā€œjudge notā€ and ā€œoh its just another anti-catholic storyā€ā€¦its bloody shameful is what it is!!!
the church is banging on about the evils of gay marriage whilst she is accepting bribes to have criminals buried with all pomp and ceremony in some of the holiest of places of our religion.
sounds to me the church is picking and choosing what moral issue to stand against and taking bribes for others.
Shame on you Vatican, SHAME!
