If true, this is great news indeed. There’s so much potential harvest in China that yet to be harnessed.
 
That’s right.
After this becomes official:
About 5 million underground Catholics will be able to worship without fear of state prosecution and then another 5 million previous state Catholic “schismatic” can be brought back officially into the fold. It’s a win win situation.
Also Catholics who travel to China will not have the dilemma of choosing which Catholic church to go to.

I can’t help but think that the Chinese government is plotting a large scale persecution. Perhaps using this to draw out the underground Church…
 
The alternative is worse so place our trust in God.

It is about control. They want to control religions because of the possibility that religions can be bigger than Communism in China, and therefore become political competitors. There is no two ways about it, and we cannot change that. It is a reality in that country. So there is no easy solution to it.

On the other hand, the confusion of having two parallel Catholic churches in China is damaging also, which is obvious. I am not sure if any of you have worked with our underground brothers and sisters Catholics in China. Their spirit is very high, which is good and the person of the Cardinal reflects that, but as they are hunted and petsecuted, the Church is unable to reach out to the more than one billion Chinese. Just imagine our Catholic priests missionaries that have to forgo everything about the priesthood, not to celebrate mass, so as to be able to stay in China. China secret police is probably one of the most efficient there is, and if they see any threat and illegality, you can be sure, that’s the end of that person.

We need to offer all this to the Lord and pray that God will lead our Holy Father in wisdom to deal with it.
 
Maybe, but they don’t want to do anything that might provoke a war with the United States. A genocide against Christians could provoke President Trump to intervene militarily, and make no mistake, China would lose that war, and they know it.
 
Just an aside. China doesn’t have to commit genocide against the Catholics. They just have to outlaw them, which is what actually happening now. They want to show to the world that they are open to religions but actually they have every means in their power to control and stop religions.

I doubt there’s any winnable war with China or that the US will go ro war to interfere in China’s internal affair.
 
The BBC has reported in the past they’re OK with Christianity because they see the importance of morality and fear the importation of ‘Western immorality’ like many Asian countries (imagine that!) and Christianity is an answer to those but for them, it has to be monitored and serve a specific purpose.

Perhaps. But if full scale war, many, many, many, many Americans would also die.
 
Does the Patriotic Catholic church have a different teaching on artificial birth control and abortion?
 
Ideally, we’d form a defense pact with India :india: and that would greatly boost our military strength.
 
Likely. It is possible we could cripple them in a first-strike and win the war quickly and decisively, but that would require almost everything breaking in our favor.
