Kind of old news but new for me. Part of the reason there’s a priest crisis.

VATICAN CITY Oct 13, 2007 (AP)

An Italian monsignor was suspended from a senior position at the Holy See, the Vatican said on Saturday, identifying him as a priest who was anonymously interviewed about his gay sex life on a television program. continue

If the church only viewed priest abusers of children as seriously as gay priests…🤷

In the program on a private Italian television network, the monsignor said he "didn’t feel he was sinning"by having sex with gay men…

I’m glad the Vatican took action, and I hope they take action against any heretic priests.

As far as the “pedophile” issue, previous inaction regarding homosexuality in the priesthood most likely led to the “pedophile” situation. Before everyone starts making the “homosexuals aren’t pedophiles!” posts, please do some research. Eighty percent of the cases were teenage (post-pubescent) boys. That is not pedophilia; it is hebophilia - an attraction to adolescents.

Some may think this is a difference in semantics, but it is not. Do we consider a heterosexual man who likes and has sex with high school girls a pedophile? Nope. We try him for statutory rape.

That said, I do think the Vatican should have done more. Perhaps, this is a sign that they are tightening things up.

*" The Vatican said Saturday it has **suspended **a monsignor from a senior post at the Holy See after an Italian TV program, with a hidden camera, recorded him making advances to a young man and asserting that gay sex was not sinful." *

*"Contacted by telephone at his home by The Associated Press, Monsignor Tommaso Stenico confirmed that he had been suspended from his post at the congregation. **"Don’t condemn me,’’ *Stenico said. "The interview was done fraudulently,’'

"Higher-ups are evaluating the situation with the
* necessary reserve** and with the obligatory respect for the person involved, even if this person** has erred**," Lombardi said.*

The Vatican needs to show to him the same* respect*** he shows to the roman collar he wears, to the teachings of the Church and to the people of God.
Jesus Christ speaks severely about causing scandal and this is a scandal for which Stenico does not appear to accept any responsibility :dts: .
The intent (by all these men) was to undermine the Church’s teachings on homosexuality while remaining within the Church (why else cover their faces during programming.)
I think he is not to be trusted
,** needs to be blessed, defrocked **and sent on his way!

They are one & the same.
You couldnt be more wrong. Sin varies in degrees. Abusing a child is much more evil than two grown adults of the same sex being intimate. Cant believe you cant see that

Almost all the priests who have been charged with sex abuse are accused of abusing male adolescents. This is still abuse, but it is characteristic of men attracted to post-pubescent males, opportunistically taking advantage of the naivete of young people, rather than of men attracted to little children. It’s still terrible and criminal either way, but statistically male homosexuals are many times more dangerous to adolescents and preadolescents than heterosexuals are.

This situation is a welcome move by the Vatican and touches upon an issue recently addressed by apologist Jim Blackburn here. The charitable thing to do about those who have same-sex attractions is to find out who they are and publicly expose them. We do this for the security of those whom the individual in question might come into contact with and to use the resulting humiliation to provide an incentive for him to come away from his same-sex desires and back to Christ.

It is said that Hell has different levels…but it is STILL Hell. It is torture and pain but most of all…the loss of God. A lost soul is eternally in the company of demons. Think about it.

Point granted. So that means the Church should ignore a member of its clergy acting in a way that doesn’t rise to the particular threshold of evil that you’re willing to put up with?

Those priests who totally disregard the Church teaching on homosexual behaviour, and try to justify it, are the same ones who end of preying on minors. This priest sounds like one of those.

The Church needs to seriously start weeding homosexuals out of the Seminaries.

The Church needs to seriously start weeding homosexuals out of the Seminaries.
The weeding out has to start with the bishops. They are responsible for the screening of seminary candidates. Some bishops see no impediment in having homosexual candidates for the priesthood. A few are very well-known for this.

The seminaries are within the Bishops’ authority.

Here is a real good book on the subject of Bishops’ failure

The Faithful Departed: The Collapse of Boston’s Catholic Culture, …
…traces the rise and fall of the Catholic Church as a cultural dynamo in Boston, showing how the Massachusetts experience set a pattern that has echoed throughout the United States as religious institutions have lost social influence in the face of rising secularization. The collapse of Catholicism in Boston became painfully apparent in 2002, with the full explosion of the sex-abuse crisis.
But Lawler brings an insider’s knowledge and a journalist’s sense of drama to show that the sex-abuse scandal was neither the cause nor the beginning of Catholicism’s decline in Boston. In fact, the scandal was itself a symptom of corruption that was already well advanced. Full of colorful anecdote and gripping social history, The Faithful Departed will be of interest not only to Catholics and to those acquainted with Boston’s rich political tradition, but to anyone concerned about the interplay between religious faith and public policy. The demise of Catholic influence in Massachusetts is an especially vivid example of a secularizing trend that is visible throughout the United States.

Thank you. many things about the Boston Archdiocese that are not quite “kosher.”

I read Shiela Rausch Kennedy’s book, “Shattered Faith” which adds to the mountain of deviance from the Church there. Boston Archdiocese has been non-conformist for many years.

The annulment procedures there are depressing to any who believe in the sanctity and indissoluble nature of the sacrament of Holy Matrimony.

Cardinal Law was the coup de grace.

Hell waits for some.

Almost all is a pretty braod excuse. Watch the docu - deliver us from evil

It’s not an excuse for anything. I mentioned it so the relationship between the abuse issue and homosexuality would be clearer.
