Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut and well thought nutritional advice. Sending me an article on the definition of obesity is something of an obfuscation in relation to the point, but whatever.

The point is that most people eat a lot more of it than they know, without knowing that they’re eating it, and it’s not very good for you. Corn is a high sugar, low nutrition crop. Most Americans are getting large quantities of it in things they don’t expect to find it in.

As a physician, a physician that has taken courses in Nutrition, I wanted to point out the Corn is not the cause of obesity. I agree there is probably too much corn in the products we eat. There is something called choice. I don’t eat sugar, I don’t drink soda, I don’t eat fast foods and if you recall the indians ate lots of Maize/corn.

Much of what is happening is related to Monsanto. Monsanto owns the patents on seeds. This started with their patent on the insecticide “roundup”. They then engineered a roundup resistant soy bean seed and others and farmers were forced to buy their seeds from Monsanto. The culprit is not corn. It is Monsanto. It is people making choices to buy junk.

I agree with you that Monsanto is a big part of the problem. The other part of the problem is that people are unaware of what is in the food they eat. The problem hits the poor worst of all. The cheap food is the bad food, and many people can’t afford to feed families on healthy food. And of course the poor are by and large less educated on what they eat anyway. It is much cheaper to feed a family at McDonald’s than buying the good stuff at Whole Foods, although if you’re a vegetarian like me, you can get dinner at Whole Foods for about $4.50. If you eat meat, $7.50 but most people I know are afraid they’ll dry up and blow away or something if they give up meat. I actually get more protein than most people who eat meat. My personal unqualified opinion is that you are basically okay if you stay out of the center isles of the grocery store. The fruits, vegetables, nuts, berries and dairy products that I live on are on the outer perimeters of the store. Much of what is in the center isles has corn and other forms of complex sugars in them. Much to the detriment of the American consumer, the stuff in the centers isles are what we see advertised on TV.

Losh…

Listen to EWTN news…they are going to unpack the call from the Cardinal’s office regarding the document…our pastor commented on it…in complete disagreement…

They are now having Patrick Buchanan on…I think he is hitting it on the nail…we are beyond help…we need God…we need a St. Paul…

I think what is happening is a correction…getting rid of objective standards, creating too many lending institutions, misappropriation of massive amount of tax dollars, transnational corporations…not enough revenue building…
