A special Vatican commission formed by Pope Benedict XVI to investigate reports of Marian apparitions at Medjugorje concluded that the earliest apparitions were likely authentic, but expressed grave doubts about later reports, according to Vatican journalist Andrea Tornielli of La Stampa.

Didn’t we discuss this and a few threads get merged in the process?

Is Pope Francis letting the Medjugorje believers down easy? Or are the series of events just coincidence: For a year or two Pope Francis has cryptically referred to the current everyday apparitions in a dismissive way. Then he mentions something more substantial in an airplane press conference, and now, a few days after the airplane press conference, a story that practically lets the cat out of the bag.

I dont get it, if the later and recent ones were not thought to be authentic or demonic, what else could it be?

How could the first ones be genuine, followed by a SEAMLESS transition to false ones? Looks like a clumsy compromise.

It’ll be interesting to read the responses of Bishop Peric, Patrick Madrid, Jimmy Akin, Louis Belanger, Donal Foley and others. 🤷

I understand that not everything in life is “black and white”. Here and there we must have shades of grey, or ambiguity, or nuances.

But is there **anything **unambiguous coming out of the Vatican in recent years? Should **everything **be put out for contradictory conclusions, uncertain contexts of remarks, and scrutiny of endless footnote nuances?

This is not questioning Church leaders, but a general comment on what seems a breakdown of clear religious communications, by Catholic and non Catholic sources alike.

According to Tornelli, the commission also recommends that any Ban on pilgrimages be cancelled and the Vatican sets up a shrine under the Vaticans protection.

hmmm… interesting!

Actually the commission is split on this and rightly so. If they are indeed real and ongoing then the Vatican will not pronounce judgement until they stop. This may be one reason why they split the judgement of these apparitions in two parts.

As with everything, time will tell if this is real or false. Let us pray for the will of the Father to prevail in this and all things!🙂

Personally, I think that the events at Medugorje was a distraction from another not yet approved apparition that we hear so little of and that has a very important message for our time.

Vatican City, May 17, 2017 / 10:29 am (Vatican Insider / La Stampa).- Thirteen votes in favor of recognizing the supernatural nature of the first seven appearances in Medjugorje, one vote against and one “suspensive” ballot, which will give a final answer later. A majority of suspensive votes and many doubts instead, concerning the apparition phenomenon from the end of 1981 to today.

These are the results of the work done by the commission on Medjugorje established in 2010 by Benedict XVI and chaired by Cardinal Camillo Ruini.

Pope Francis mentioned this report in the press conference on the return flight from Fatima when he revealed the distinction between the first apparitions and the later ones, saying, “A commission of good theologians, bishops, cardinals. Good, good, good. The Ruini report is very, very good. It is well known that the signal that emerged from the Pontiff’s words is positive about the spiritual fruits and the conversions (people who go there and convert, people who meet God, who change life),” but was negative with regard to the current apparitions: “I prefer Our Lady as Mother, and not the head of the telegraph office, who sends a message every day.”

If feel comfortable sharing that, do so. If you would rather not at this time, that is ok.

I’m surprised at how positive the report was on the early apparitions. I knew that the early apparitions were more credible than the ongoing ones, and that believing in only the early apparitions was a serious position. But I didn’t know the evidence tilted so heavily in their favor.

I am not so sure that the early apparitions are more credible.

There’s already an approved shrine to Our Lady under the title of “Queen of Peace” not far from Medjugorje, and it was approved before that saga began.
Tornielli’s not non-partisan.

Same here.
The “Gospa” was vague, and the response: * “As long as you like.” is an odd one.

The strange statements made before the thing started are skull-scratching… a mental picture of Fr Vlasic seated, with streams of water flowing from his seat…etc*

For those who have been skeptical and therefore don’t know the contents of the first seven visits, can somebody reliably summarize them?

Tornielli’s not non-partisan. What does that have to do with giving medjugorje “shrine” Staus. Tornelli may not be non-partisan but that does not mean he is lying!

The Vatican Envoy will be finishing his report in June. I’m sure we will find out what he thinks is best Pastorally for Medj.

Our Lady of Peace, Pray for us!😃
