On Monday at noon in Rome, the Vatican’s Press Office confirmed to CNA that Pope Benedict will be receiving U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi in an audience at noon on Wednesday.

Pelosi, a self-proclaimed “ardent Catholic” who has sparked significant criticism from fellow Catholics in the U.S. for her pro-abortion views, arrived in Italy on Sunday for an eight-day official visit.

I am interested to see what the result of this visit will be. Will Rep. Pelosi recieve a public reprimand directly from the Pope for giving scandal to the Catholic faith?
 
I hope it will be a progressive meeting. When I say progressive, I mean I hope it will set the tone of getting pro-abortion (who call themselves Catholic) politicians in their place. I hope the Pope sets her straight and after this she will have no more excuses for calling herself Catholic and promoting abortion.
 
A great tongue lashing and a contingency to avoid excommunication should be public denouncement of abortion and financial assistance to Planned Parenthood. Then she should carry the anti abortion message to every public or private place she attends. A full Confession would be a
prerequisite before being sent forth. :highprayer:

I would never leave my Faith because of something related to Pelosi… and certainly not be be Baptist … their theology is unfullfilling, lacking in much Truth, and as detrimental - long term - to God’s children as any politician.

This doesn’t sound promising as far as Pelosi’s Catholic “faith” being brought up during the audience:
The press office made clear that the Pope will meet with Pelosi in his capacity as a head of state since the Speaker of the House is the third in line to lead the U.S., should the president and vice president be unable to do so.

The meeting does not need to be a tongue-lashing or personal, as it is an official state meeting. I would however like to see the problem of abortion in America brought up, along with the need to end its unrestricted access. This would not be unusual as it is often the topic between the Vatican and the United States.

I’m surprised you’re still around after Bill Clinton was served Communion.

In 1979, then Chicago mayor Jane Byrne, who married a divorced man, received Communion from the pope. I don’t remember her getting a lecture.

I’m curious: given that the Pope is a German citizen who lives most of his time in Italy, do you think he is familiar with Speaker Pelosi and her political views? Do you think a secretary of his might update the Pope with personal information on Speaker Pelosi before their meeting?

First off, Bill Clinton didn’t receive it from the Pope. That Priest and certainly Clinton were wrong in that act.

As for Chicago mayor Jane Byrne, it is very likely that the Pope didn’t know who she was and while people in that situation aren’t allowed to receive communion, it isn’t the same as pro abortion politicians.
 
I’m not really mad that the pope is going to meet with her. It’s just so infuriating that she gets to vote the way she votes, talk the way she talks, and nothing ever happens to her. She continues to support legalized abortion and then she recieves the Eucharist.

How long, O Lord, how long?
 
Hopefully the Pope will privately tell her that she is excomunicated and explain to her what that means.
 
I wonder if she’s going to wear a chapel veil, like Hilary Clinton did when she met Pop John Paul.

Also, I wonder of she is going to wear a too short skirt and struggle with it as she is seated similarly to the way she presented herself when she went to Syria.

And I’m also curious of the treatment the Italian press will give her.
 
Despite what Father Euteneur wants, she won’t get excommunicated. However, there is NO reason why she shouldn’t be denied communion until she repents.

The two met in a small room of a Vatican auditorium after the pope’s weekly public audience. A number of the bishops in the United States have questioned Pelosi’s stance on abortion, particularly her theological defense of her support for abortion rights.

We all should pray for the Pope and Nancy Pelosi today, that the Holy Spirit works in both of them during their audience and that she has a change of heart. I would rather see that and repentance than an excommunication.

Goodness people, the Lord didn’t come to the well of that Samaritan woman and tell her she was a tramp (sry, just saw a Christopher West lecture).

Let’s hope that Speaker Pelosi will see the error of her ways and come to a better understanding of God’s mercy and love.
