This follows my observations over the past decade. The parish council is no longer a position of dignity for those living the catholic faith in the fullest sense and exhibiting role model behavior for the community. Instead, the parish council is political, and sometimes filled with people that oppose the church teaching and that have been appointed by dissenting priests and religious.

It is symbolic that the church does not take a stand on issues like this. The church has lost its way, and its meaning. Is it any wonder the church is not attractive to the younger generation.

The Church is actually very attractive to the younger generation. See a slew of polls and a bunch of World Youth Days. 😉

The Church is wildly attractive to the younger generation but hardly any member of that generation is to be seen in churches on Sunday. I still haven’t found one instance where denying a problem has ever done anything to solve it. World Youth Days is a one-off and I think the number of people who go there for the get-together, festive and the Christian Woodstock aspects aren’t marginal.

Indeed it is, but there are just as many, if not more young people who do not have a strong faith. Indeed, most of those who are faithful tend to be charismatic rather than traditional in outlook ( not that there is nothing wrong with that though). I say this as someone with personal experience.

I actually see a lot of youth at Mass. 🙂

Hi,
I cannot talk about the Church in your part of the world, but in mine it is a ‘YOUNG’ Church! :yyeess:Our parishes and churches are packed up with young people.
I think it is better not to generalise about World Youth Days. Personally, I believe the Holy Spirit is actively at work among our youth, and WYDs are vivid manifestation.
Viva il Papa!!
Peace,
Rina
Ps. sorry, going off topic again.:o

I think the decision to put him into the parish council was very much mistaken. According the “Catechism of the Catholic Church,” homosexual acts should never be approved and are acts of grave depravity (section 2357). Putting a man in a gay sexual relationship back into the parish council in this way definitely seems to telegraph the view that homosexual acts are acceptable to the Church and to God, and in fact are not sinful.
I think too that this move could have a devastating effect on the morale of priests in this diocese who seek to defend Catholic teaching when it comes to such things–in fact the Cardinal’s public rebuke of this priest even went all over the world.
The individual identified by the opening post, identified as a Vatican consultant and who chipped in his opinion, has no official teaching role or teaching authority in the Catholic Church, and his opinion is just that of a private individual, with no more authority in such matters than you or me.
