Exactly. Cardinal Mahony is a retired Bishop and while he is still able to vote in a conclave, he no longer has a position of authority in a diocese. He’s not the first Bishop to retire and then start making statements that seem out of line.Cardinal Mahony ( no ‘e’) has submitted his resignation and it has been accepted. He is now retired. He has no subordinate bishops or priests.
As for the Judas remark. At the time Jesus gave Judas Communion, he was not a known, public sinner. The same cannot be said for pro-abortion politicians. Apples to oranges.
