What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. heheAwe, men’s shorts!??!
Me, too. Drives me nuts, TBH.Many churches in Italy, which are popular tourist destinations, have signs posted out front which illustrate a similar dress code. I’m honestly surprised the Vatican hasn’t done this before now.
This isn’t new, though. It’s been this way for decades. I remember being turned out of a Church because my brother and I (5 and 6) were wearing shorts. My parents were properly dressed. My dad got a tad angryAwesome. Great to see the Vatican cracking down on this. People should dress respectfully in a place like that, and not like they’re going to the beach.
Buddhist, Muslim, Sikh, and other religious venues have parallel restrictions on the appearance and behavior of visitors; Mormon venues don’t even allow visitors inside. I don’t hear anyone hurling accusations of hypocrisy over these. However, most tourists were simply shocked at what they deemed to be the church’s hypocrisy. ‘Given all the scandals the Church has been involved in, what right can it have to be preaching about the morality of sleeveless dresses?’ said Maria, an Italian visitor.
I live in a warm climate and wear nice shorts to Mass all the time with a nice shirt. I’m not the only one. I have never worn flip flops but have seen ppl in them and it doesn’t bother me in the least. Why should it when we’re all there for the Lord. Jesus and His disciples walked around in sandals and you’re gonna ban all shorts? That’s ludicrous. It’s like saying Jesus would turn away someone in shorts. Sorry but IMHO that’s going to far. If the ban ever goes worldwide, that’s for sure when I walk out the door. But at least for now guess the Pope won’t be seeing me anytime in the summer. Peace.Awe, men’s shorts!??!
What a nonsensical argument. If Maria has such a problem with the Church, why is she visiting the Vatican in the first place? However, most tourists were simply shocked at what they deemed to be the church’s hypocrisy. ‘Given all the scandals the Church has been involved in, what right can it have to be preaching about the morality of sleeveless dresses?’ said Maria, an Italian visitor.
FWIW the TLM church I’ve decided to attend has a published conservative dress code, I couldn’t be more delighted. I too am sick of looking at some geezer my age with his hairy, varicose veined chicken legs hanging out of a pair of gaudy golf shorts! Won’t even go into what the women wear, or maybe don’t cover would be a better description.I think it’s great. I wish our local churches would do the same. When people come in wearing jean shorts, grubby t-shirts and flip-flops, it shows a total lack of respect for where they are…and these are adults, not just teens!
What if people assaulting my soul through my eye by dressing immodestly or people who resist the leaders of the Church are the planks in my eye, how should I remove them do you think?I agree with Cmatt. I have seen people complaining about this on other threads. Imho worry about the plank in your own eye before you worry about the splinter in your neighbors.

This is not only churches put also St Peter’s Square. I am very liberal but I do adhere to dressing appropriately for the occasion one is engaged in. It called “class.”This isn’t new, though. I’m sorry but truly if your soul is being assaulted by my shorts then you probably need to re-focus your eyes on what you are at Mass for. What if people assaulting my soul through my eye by dressing immodestly or people who resist the leaders of the Church are the planks in my eye, how should I remove them do you think?

Well you can help with that brother, you are my brother right? Brothers help the other member’s of their family, at least ones with any love in them.I’m sorry but truly if your soul is being assaulted by my shorts then you probably need to re-focus your eyes on what you are at Mass for.
