Mainstream news organisations all over the world have been reporting many negative stories regarding the Vatican. I saw a British TV news report that reported that the Cardinals in the Vatican have been involved in in-fighting. Amazingly James Mates, the ITN reporter pointed to the Pope’s final speech on Wednesday as evidence for this assertion. The Pope referred to the stormy waters the Church had encountered during his pontificate but this was interpreted as referring to the Cardinals.
These coordinated attacks on the Church by the media have been rebuffed by the Vatican spokesman but there seems to be a more sinister agenda behind it. It all smells like the dark arts of Masonic activity.
I believe that today’s Masonic controlled media are actively preparing the minds of the viewing public for the advent of an Anti Pope. A Vatican that is warring with itself implies that there are several camps. Any Anti Pope that emerged from such a conclave would be perceived by the watching world as the emergence of a new theology within the Church that had sprung from these ‘tensions’ and ‘turmoil’ as portrayed by the world media.

The media would just love to see the Church fall apart. Too bad for them, they aren’t the ones in charge. God will not allow his Church to die the way society wants it to. I pray for our Pope Emeritus and hope that his successor is equally worthy of this awesome charge.

Masonic controlled media? I would call it an Atheistic controlled media.

This is something else that’s been drawing me to the Catholic Church - whenever there’s a media attack on Christianity, it’s always the Catholic Church that ‘gets it in the neck’, never or rarely is it any denomination.

So what reports are untrue? The sexual scandals? Nope, those are real. The banking scandal? Nope…real too.

When people stop trying to pretend that the real problems in the Church are creations of some evil outside force, maybe things will actually improve.

Bingo. Completely agree.

Yes, this is where the battle is being fought against the devil. If Biily Grahm ( the good man that he is) or Pat Robertson or any other leader dies or steps down you would’nt have nonstop coverage for weeks or months. The church is the main advisary of the evil one, this is where we should be at this time, standing with the Church of Christ is where I want to be, surely it is worth suffering for, getting mocked for, indeed, worth dying for.

The problems are real, but stories, in most media, are either overblowen or limited to the Catholic Church. There are/have been sexual scandals in other Christian church (ie JW, maga-churchs) that have not been covered in most of the national media.:gopray:🙂

Funny, I’ve read them. I’ve read about pastors on national news (Ted Haggard, anyone?), seen them on my local news, and I’ve even seen them on Dateline. Maybe you don’t read enough national news. 🤷

The Catholic Church is the largest church so it gets a lot of attention, and because of the hierarchical structure that doesn’t exist in JW and megachurches- the failures to protect children are magnified. And then of course, there was the cover-up-and that one is on the Church, they can’t blame the media for that.

You can’t whine about being a victim when you’re actually a perpetrator. There were crimes, and there were cover-ups. If it wasn’t for the media, there would still be crimes being covered up.

The Church needs a housecleaning and I believe the reason the Pope resigned was that he knew it and he also knew he wasn’t up to that job. I hope the next Pope is.

You are correct, they are under reported, some are never reported, and I do follow the news closely, very closely. And yes, thank goodness for a free press, and God save us from a corrupt, catholic bashing, elitist press, that rarely and I should add, if ever, writes about all the good that Catholic priests and sisters do all over the world every day.

A lot has to do with the Catholic Church having an easily identifiable hierarchy, and a single figurehead in the form of the Pope. That makes him a target. Also, because of the size of the membership, people pay closer attention to what the hierarchy does than they might with smaller denominations.

My personal opinion is that there is more secrecy than is the norm. The methods of PR management have not changed with the times, as much as they might have.

So, while President Kennedy could get away with philandering, President Clinton could not. Coverups are a lot more difficult, than they used to be. Because the Church does this in order to try to avoid scandal, it kind of encourages the press to keep on digging, hoping to uncover more secrets. More openness might change that. But maybe not. It is just a big target, to the media.

As long as people are willing to go to web pages, and buy periodicals with salacious headlines, then those headlines will be created.

The Pope covered up sexual f it wasn’t for the media, there would still be crimes being covered up.

You seem to know more than Benedict’s brother.

They were not all true, that would be as unacceptable as if someone were to try to make the statement that none of them were true or had any truth at all to them; we don’t have a media on a mission to find, investigate and expose mainly false scandals about the RCC that even people inside the secular media knew were contrived or even fabricated out of whole cloth. I think in all honesty anyone would have to recognize that that has taken place. Now there are also I’m sure a large number of stories where something did happen, but, again we do have to acknowledge that sensationalism easily outruns objectivity in the contemporary media’s journalistic aspirations. I haven’t read of many media investigations of itself, maybe you have but I’m sure they were done more with tongue in cheek than with dagger in hand as in when inquiring into the RCC.

It’s an OPINION. That’s why I started the sentence with “I believe”.

Good grief, does anyone learn reading comprehension anymore??

Was this snide remark really necessary?

He simply remarked - whether accurately or not, I cannot say - that you seem to believe something more than Benedict’s own brother. You believe something he does not. That’s all that qui est ce was trying to say.

The truth is somewhere between what you are saying and what others are saying. Does the Church deserve some of the negative reporting as in actual scandals? Yes. Does the media tend to show the Church in a negative light or tell only partial truths regardless of the topic? Yes.

Unfortunately, because of the real scandals, people are more likely to believe everything the media says/writes…and the media knows this.

I hope that I am not out of line here. I truly do not mean to be insensitive.

My frame of reference, obviously, is my own life. In my line of work, I have very clear professional obligations. If, for example, I decide to drink a bottle of whiskey, and then I am called to work, I will not be able to do my job. There is nobody else where I work who can fill in for me. If I can’t do my job, then the consequences to the person who is relying on me could be very serious, and with lifelong consequences for the patient, perhaps even fatal consequences. Therefore, I don’t drink whiskey, or even caffeine anymore (i once drank a lot of coke). As a surgeon, I don’t want even the slightest tremor in my hands. My biggest challenge is to get enough sleep, as I tend to stress out… but that is another story, and a reason I am on here a lot.

Believe me, I am as fallible as the next person. Probably far more so. To stick with the whiskey example, what has been observed with some clergy, is extreme alcoholism, and when they had a choice to be sober. They had time and perspective to correct the problems and human weakness that they encountered. The choice made was to take another drink, figuratively speaking.

I don’t pretend to understand the dedication that a bishop feels to protecting the reputation of the Church. I do understand that people can make very bad decisions, and that we should not be too harsh in judging them.

But there are standards, which are the other side of that coin. When I was given a weapon, as a US Marine, I was also indoctrinated with a clear understanding that squeezing the trigger inhered a moral obligation only to do so for the right reasons.

I would not want to be the new Pope. He is coming into a tough position. I sincerely wish him the best, and I hope that he can clean up the terrible mess effectively, and with grace and compassion.

I am not sure why you quoted my post.
