There seem to he two courses: one is to see the diplomatic insult and respond by becoming unavailable to the event, the other is to go and treat everyone politely.

In the latter case, yes, they will make political hay (Look at Pope Francis greeting (this sort of person) with politeness!!! Obviously *he *thinks the Christian thing to do is to allow them to do whatever they want!) and those who feel the opposite will say, Another pope who is amenable to things Catholics should jot he amenable to (Pope John Paul II kissing the Koran).

In the former case, a lot of people will say, How unChristian of the Pope to do that!!!

So basically he’s boxed in to heads you win, tails I lose. Not a nice thing for Obama to do 😦

Didn’t Jesus to sit and eat with prostitutes and tax collectors?

Didn’t Jesus to sit and eat with prostitutes and tax collectors?
He did, but he never did so without taking the opportunity to tell them to repent and follow him.

He was also smart enough to know when the authorities were trying to trap him into saying something or appearing to stand for something he didn’t.

So yeah, that’s about as far as that nonsense will take you.

Yes, but that’s not the point. Obama’s motivations are the point. He did this as a passive-aggressive jab at the Pope and the Catholic Church. Obama has stated a number of times that Churches that don’t agree must change their teaching.

Yes, but he wasn’t expected to pose for photos with them nor were they trying to get him to change his mind about the sinfulness of prostitution or abusive tax collection practices.

Apples and oranges.

We all know who Obama has behind him, but let’s not forget who the Pope has above him. The Holy Spirit. He knows what Obama is up to. God Bless, Memaw

Agree totally. Also, Hillary Clinton has said (direct quote): “Religion will have to change.” This is a direct slap at the Holy Father, and is why I was so sad when it was first announced that Pope Francis would be going to the White House. Clearly - just as Obama did when he went to the Vatican - Obama twists things to his political advantage and optics count more than truth.

Was a few years ago. Made him go in and out the back door next to all the trash. Obama didn’t want to upset the Chinese.

I joined this message board because this topic was a breaking point. I am in my mid thirties and I totally see the obvious. To the Catholics out there feeling more and more like a lone voice in the wilderness, I say to you that you are not alone. We must continue to stand for and speak the truth in love against those who wish to slander our faith, twist our dogma, and divide our unity. The sheep are being scattered because no one is learning the Word anymore. If the people in charge want to use Pope Francis to promote an agenda, and if Pope Francis wants to allow himself to be used to promulgate confusion then it is not lost on many Catholics.

These are not the easiest of times- I believe that this world is close to or worse than in the days before Noah…and yes, I am a sinner just as bad or worse than anyone else.
