Vatican envoy threatens to boycott Holocaust memorial

Jerusalem, Apr. 12, 2007 (CWNews.com) - The Vatican’s representative in Israeli is threatening to boycott a Holocaust commemoration ceremony because of a public attack on Pope Pius XII. … more here

I agree with him.

It is slanderous revisionist history that was perpetrated by the old Soviet Union and a Hitler Youth member. People forget that millions of Catholics and Christians were also murdered by the Nazis.

The papal representative stressed that he did not intend to cause a public controversy. His letter was a private communication, he pointed out, “not a press conference.” But museum officials chose to make the letter a public matter, he told AsiaNews: “They gave it to the press.”
Why does he not want to cause a public controversy? It is time to stop rolling over and playing dead on this. It is time to insist on honesty from those who promote this canard.

Excellent! Its about time that someone stands up to those who would dare to slander the name of Venerable Pope Pius XII, one of the greatest Popes this century. The lies and insults they create must come to an end.

I’m not sure but from I remember, that in Israel that churches could be taken away by the government…??? so maybe he is afraid.

In my opinion, he took the right path by doing it privately first. That is the way things should be handled in the beginning.

Remember, it was the memorial that made it public not him.

It’s not clear to me why the nuncio decided to make this move now if the caption has been there since 2005.

I don’t think this was a smart move. It may help get the caption changed at some point in the next few years. Or maybe not. But it certainly will make it tougher to get the Vatican’s interests served within Israel over the short term.
