I was sharing Gary Krupp’s book with my Jewish client, who escaped the Nazis from Cecheslovaia…I know that is not spelt right. She learned German, She was placed in a Carmelite boarding school, wanted to become a Carmelite nun, and her parents swooped her up and they moved to New York.
She told me in her family tradition that Pius XII was a good man. Likewise she brought up Roosevelt…and I remember him turning the boat away with Jewish exiles who came to our shores to avoid being murdered. They went back and if I understand correctly, they were captured and put into concentration camps.
Pope John XIII was complimented on his actions towards the Jews, and he replied that he was simply following in the foot steps of his predecessor.
“In all these painful matters I have referred to the Holy See and simply carried out the Pope’s orders: first and foremost to save human lives.” Pope John XIII
"I only acted upon orders from the Holy Father. “Nobody deserves a medal for that.” Pope Paul VI.
