Vatican II: Benedict rewrites history

The Guardian articles that have been referenced and CAF have been notoriously anticatholic, unreliable and biased.
 
A poorly written article that lacks true insight. The so-called reforms of Vatican II were not authorized by Vatican II.

I hope the news spreads far and wide that Vatican II has been made a scapegoat. That some within and outside the Church worked to create their idea of “reforms,” which Thank God, Pope John Paul II and now Pope Benedict worked to correct.

The UK Guardian is a rag; I don’t trust their opinions and journalism. They are very left wing which is hostile to religion in general. (Unless it’s Islam.)
 
The guardian is a wonderful paper. If you want to read about footie or rugby.

So a lot of people don’t like the Guardian. The Pope said what he said - which was an acknowledgment of the importance and value of Vatican II. His statement is not surprising to me, or a re-write of history. Pope Benedict has been a consistent supporter of Vatican II, despite the hopes of some that he would not be.
 
The author of the article almost certainly hasn’t actually READ more than a smattering of excerpts of the Vatican II documents. Instead, as usual, he has taken as gospel truth the whisperings of Hans Kung and Charlie Curran as to what the “real” meaning of Vatican II was all about.

Um, excuse me? Can we just let the Vatican II documents speak for themselves please? In my experience, 90% of the dissenters who justify their sins with appeals to “the Spirit of Vatican II” haven’t even read the darn thing or if they did, they just scanned through until they found something ambiguous enough to underline and take out of context to rationalize where their emotions wanted to take them anyway.

My advice to anyone alarmed at the “rollback” of Vatican II is to go buy the compendium book of the documents and get educated.

Valid point. However, what the documents say may not be as important as how they have been interpreted and applied. There are innumerable posts in these forums by osensible Catholics that place blame on Vatican II for many problems in the Church.

I thought that was an interesting observation. Just what is he talking about and on what does he base this? While Parish and Finance councils may exist in parishes, they only have a consultative role and power is still totally in the hands of the pastor and the bishop. Nothing has been decentralized regardless of what those who are part of the above councils may think.
